To access the ECS remote servers using Windows XP, Vista, or 7: For terminal access to Unix machines, use putty: 1. Go to http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html 2. Download "Putty.exe" 3. Open it, and under "Host Name", type (without quotes) "athena.ecs.csus.edu" You can find an introduction to pico (a CLI text editor) at http://www.ncsu.edu/it/essentials/managing_files/text_editors/pico_tutor/ and an introduction to gcc (the command used to compile .c files) at http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~beechung/ref/gcc-intro.html Hope this helps! --Adam
