DRE: 02125478
Carpinteria Reef Ranch is an architecturally captivating agricultural property on ±11 acres in the Carpinteria foothills, overlooking the saltwater marsh and Carpinteria Reef. Ferguson-Ettinger Architects set out to design a unique family compound that celebrates the rich history of Carpinteria by blending into the natural surroundings, incorporating agricultural elements and capturing views from every living space. This one-of-a-kind coastal avocado ranch is a rare opportunity to enjoy the peaceful Carpinteria lifestyle.
Enter the main residence and you will be greeted by a structural marvel boasting stunning curved roof lines, dramatic ceiling heights, and spectacular ocean views. The entrance hall form was inspired by the Chumash tomol, creating a harmonious, awe-inspiring structure that reflects the graceful and efficient design of a canoe. The open concept layout allows for fluid movement between spaces, creating an organic flow and sense of connectivity. Expansive windows throughout invite an abundance of natural light while framing the 360° panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Consisting of 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, the ±4,900sf home embodies the spirit of Santa Barbara County’s Southern Coast, seamlessly blending contemporary boldness with coastal ranch charm and truly indoor-outdoor living. Captivating views from every room are amplified by high ceilings and sleek modern lines. Concrete floors throughout radiate warmth with the Viessmann radiant heating system. The main residence tiers naturally with the gradual slope of the site. The layout orients around the back courtyard, with each living space opening out to the saltwater pool and spa, outdoor dining area, fire pit lounge, and flat lawn overlooking the orchard with sweeping ocean views.
The property features a ±5 acre certified organic avocado orchard, a newly remodeled ±800sf barn, and ±132sf music room.
The location is unparalleled given the ease of access off HWY 192 and close proximity to Carpinteria, Summerland, Montecito and the 101 freeway.
Carpinteria is a small coastal city located in Santa Barbara County, nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and Pacific Ocean. The history of Carpinteria dates back to the indigenous Chumash people who inhabited the region for thousands of years before the arrival of European settlers. The Chumash thrived in the area due to its favorable climate and abundant natural resources. They established settlements along the coast and were skilled craftsmen, known for their intricate basketry and seafaring canoes.
In 1769 Spanish explorers led by Gaspar de Portolá came upon a group of Chumash splitting redwood logs, hand-hewing planks, and constructing large, seagoing canoes they called tomols. Soldiers named the area La Carpinteria, or the Carpenter's Shop.
With the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad in the late 1880s, Carpinteria began to experience significant growth. The railroad brought new settlers and facilitated the transportation of goods, particularly the flourishing agricultural products of the region. Carpinteria became known for its citrus orchards, including lemons and avocados, and developed a reputation as the "Lemon Capital of the World."
Over the years, Carpinteria has evolved into a vibrant and creative community with a mix of agriculture, tourism, and residential development. It has maintained its small-town charm while adapting to changing times. The city has preserved its agricultural heritage and celebrates a commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable practices.
Today, Carpinteria remains a true coastal gem - a last vestige of the quaint California beach towns. Carpinteria’s rich history, natural beauty, and thriving community make it an attractive place to live, work, and visit year-round.
