A Community Cause

Our team and our programs are only as strong as the community that embraces them. We are fortunate to have the support of many individuals, organizations and businesses that help provide for these children and families. There are many ways to get involved. To learn more about becoming a foster family, adopting a child, providing financial support or giving of your time in many other ways, please contact us.

Community Based Care of Central Florida (CBCCFL) is a local, not-for-profit organization that oversees child welfare programs in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. We manage foster care, adoption and family assistance programs and work with former foster children who need support and guidance as they enter adulthood.

Our Story We began our mission nearly a decade ago when the State of Florida put responsibility for child welfare in the hands of local communities. In 2004, we started in Seminole County; today we serve children and families in Seminole, Orange and Osceola counties.  Our focus – every day, is to do whatever it takes to keep kids safe. We work with our community’s most vulnerable children who have been the victims of, or are at risk of, abuse, neglect and abandonment.

Our Services Foster Care We oversee the foster care system and have safe homes and warm beds ready if a child must be removed from his or her immediate surroundings. We actively recruit and train new foster parents and ensure our children have the things they need – from clothes, backpacks and blankets to counseling, tutoring and mentoring – to live safer, healthier lives.

Family Assistance Depending on each child’s unique situation, we work one-on-one with parents and children to address challenges that, left unresolved, could escalate into serious issues. Through our partners, we provide parenting classes, mentoring, educational support and childcare. Parents and children also have access to counseling, rehabilitation, behavioral support and other services to improve their emotional well-being.

Adoption If a child is unable to return to their own home, we marshal our resources to find that child a loving, permanent home, or what our kids call a “forever” home. Sometimes, a child’s foster family decides to adopt; other times families in our community open their hearts and homes. To pave the way, we coordinate educational programs for prospective parents and work hard to simplify the process so that our kids find stability as quickly as possible.

Independent Living We never stop working toward permanency for our children, but we also prepare them for a time when they will take full responsibility for themselves, at age 18. At CBC, this preparation process usually begins when a child reaches 13, and includes group coaching classes and pairing kids with mentors who focus on life skills, like driving, banking, grocery shopping, cooking, and getting and keeping a job. We also coordinate programs and financial assistance for young adults who have aged out of foster care and are pursuing their education.
