uchos niños jugando y riendo en espacios públicos... este es el verdadero termómetro de la calidad de una ciudad en cualquier parte del mundo. Así lo cree Luis Diego Barahona, arquitecto impulsor en el país de un plan basado en un sistema “de acupuntura urbana”. Se trata de pequeñas intervenciones puntuales en la ciudad que buscan influir en un sector más amplio. “Son una transcripción de lo que la gente va queriendo hacer con su ciudad”, dice Barahona, una forma directa de actuar de forma inmediata en tiempo y espacio, en proyectos que pueden beneficiar a la ciudad a no muy largo plazo –alrededor de cinco años–, lo que motiva al ciudadano y lo lleva a trabajar colectivamente. Este tipo de iniciativa busca la racionalidad económica a través de presupuestos compactos. Se trata de tener mucho impacto con poco. Debe estar en zonas de mucha convergencia de gente, tener una calidad constructiva sólida y ser multifuncional. Ya se han intervenido varios puntos, entre ellos los planes de renovación de Barrio Los Yoses y Barrio Escalante. A futuro hay planes fuera de la Gran Área Metropolitana y hasta en Turrialba.

any children playing and laughing in public areas ... this is the true barometer of the quality of a city anywhere in the world. So thinks Luis Diego Barahona, architect promotor in the country of a plan based on the system of “urban acupuncture”. It is all about small ad hoc interventions in the city seeking to influence a larger sector. “This is a transcript of what people are wanting to do with their city,” says Barahona, a direct way of acting immediately in space and time, with projects that can benefit the city not on a very longterm - about five years-, what motivates a citizen and leads him to work collectively. This type of initiative seeks economic rationality through compact budgets. It´s all about making great impact with little resources. It must happen in areas of high convergence of people, have a solid constructive quality and be multifunctional.
Several places have already been intervened, among them the plans for renovation of Los Yoses and Barrio Escalante. In the future there are plans outside of the Greater Metropolitan Area and even Turrialba.
