HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE BTEC DIPLOMA LEVEL 1 FF1CHEA1L0 | ONE YEAR COURSE OVERVIEW On this course you will get a broad understanding of health and social care and develop your practical and interpersonal skills for working in the health and social care sector. The course can lead to employment in residential care homes, day centres or hospitals or you can progress onto the BTEC Level 2 Diploma or a Childcare Level 2 course.

You’ll also develop skills which will help in other areas of life such as effective communication and IT. Most of your study will take place in the classroom but there will be visits to a real work environment.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED? You will be assessed via your coursework, written assignments, practical and workbooks.

WHAT WILL I LEARN? You will cover areas like: • Starting work in health and social care

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You will need three GCSEs at grade 2 or above.

• Developing skills in health and social care • Images of people • Health and the environment • Exploring local services

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course can lead to employment within the health and social care sector such as a junior employee or as an apprentice.

You will be assessed via two externally assessed units, the remaining units are assessed internally.

This qualification is built on two core units that form the fundamental knowledge and understanding of health and social care principles:

• Human lifespan development • Health and social care values In addition to this you will study additional units to develop a broader understanding of the health and social care sector including factors that influence an individual’s lifestyle choices and their health. You will also acquire some of the practical skills identified by employers as the fundamental building blocks for future competence in the workplace.
