HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This is a Level 1 course that introduces an understanding of the skills required to work with children. On completion, you could progress to a Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years, Education and Care or Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning.

You will be assessed through a variety of evidence produced for your portfolio. Topics are classroom based and will include practical and written activities.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You will need three GCSEs at grade 2 or above and a reference from school or previous course tutor.

You will cover a wide range of topics including: • Growth and development of young children • Understanding play • Health and safety • Healthy living and diets • Practical activities to explore with young children

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course will prepare you to support pupils in primary, secondary and specialist schools and colleges. It could lead to a Level 3 Childcare course, a Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship or employment in an educational setting.

You will be assessed by written assignments, work place assessments and professional discussions.

WHAT WILL I LEARN? The qualification has 11 units and covers areas such as:
