This course covers all aspects of basic hairdressing and can help launch your career in this expanding industry. If you have artistic flair, a caring personality, enthusiasm and are willing to work hard, you can pursue a challenging and worthwhile career in this industry.

• The art of dressing hair

WHAT WILL I LEARN? There are 11 mandatory units:

• Salon reception duties • Maths and English will be included in your programme • Work experience in a salon of your choice

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED? Your practical skills are assessed in a commercial salon. You will be assessed on your knowledge and theory using online exams.

• Health and safety • Client consultation for hair services

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• Promote products and services to client in a salon

You should be 16 or over and there is no upper age limit. Evidence of good education supported by school/college reports or successful completion of NVQ 1 Hair with a positive reference. You will need three GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English Language and Maths.

• Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp • Cut women’s hair • Colour and lighten hair • Cutting and styling men’s hair
