Frank Fawcett named Mr. Haywood County
In the public eye this year’s Mr. Haywood County rose above the call of duty, not because of the attention he would gain, but the lives he could save. Frank Fawcett was named this year’s Mr. Haywood County. “It’s a humbling thought that I was voted Mr. Haywood County,” Fawcett said. “All I try to do is get other people to help me help someone else.” In the wake of May’s torrential floods, many Haywood Countians rushed to the aid of stranded victims throughout the county, but it was one individual who led the way to others. Fawcett has been serving on the rescue squad for 20 years and currently serves as Captain. “In the forefront of the floods, it wasn’t me, it was everyone out there. I was just the guy giving directions.” Speaking of that May weekend, when the sky seemed to collapsed over much of Tennessee, Fawcett said the rescue tasks went pretty smooth, due in part to the cooperation and quick response of
rescue teams. “It amazed me to see how everyone came together, and how individuals took their own boats to get people out.” He recalled the day a man whose vehicle was completely submerged underwater on Hwy 19 and was stranded in a nearby field on a terrace. “We plucked him right up, that rescue seizure was pretty scary, it definitely could have been a lot worse.” And he’s quick to give credit where credit is due, his father, and life-long Brownsville resident Robert Fawcett. “My daddy is one of the most humble people on this earth, always trying to help someone,” he stated, “and that’s exactly how he raised me to be.” “The ‘why’ behind everything I do is helping other people,” Fawcett notioned. “It’s a basic precept of Christianity, it’s what Christians do. Fawcett has been a member of Zion Baptist Church for 10 years and is currently serving his first term as alderman in Stanton, where he resides

with his wife,Vicky. “I ran for that office, because I saw a need for guidance in my community,” he said. He has been employed with the city of Brownsville for 32 years working as a waste water operator and operates his own side business working as a waster water consultant. He currently serves as a member of the Stanton Planning Commission and serves on the Emergency Board of Directors. And at the end of the day what keeps giving Fawcett motivation to serve others, “helping others gives direction for the future generation.” While greatly appreciative of the high honor, Fawcett feels he’s no more deserving than many other community volunteers.
“Everyone that gives their time, talents and ability to the community is Mr. Haywood County,” he humbly remarked.
Mr. Haywood County
I would like to sincerely thank you for voting me Mr. Haywood County. It is an honor because I feel like I am only one among many who believe that when you help others you make yourself into a better person. I am blessed every time that I get the opportunity. I want to also thank the Haywood County Rescue Squad and all the others that give their time and effort helping others. We are the ones who run toward when everyone else is running away.
