Season nearing an end By: XAVIER COLE Staff Writer The junior varsity team struggled with defensive errors but hit pretty good all night. Kaitlyn McBride hit a double, while Shay Williams and Ebony Clark both hit singles. Pitcher Kaitlyn McBride was strong on the mound striking out six batters. Ebony Clark and Jamaica Bond scored two runs for Haywood. The final score for the junior varsity contest was 8-2. Players of the JV game were Ebony Clark and Jamaica Bond. The Lady Warrior Varsity Team dominated their home field last night both offensively and defensively. These girls were nothing but serious from the first pitch of the night. Coach Holly Pipkin stated, “What an awesome game they played!”

Pitcher Cassidy Hendrix continued to bring on her “A” game striking out 7 of the 16 that came to bat for Three Oaks. The girls scored five runs in the first inning, seven runs in the 3rd, and the final run in the fourth. Team members scoring those runs were: Allie Jacocks (two runs), Kaitlyn McBride (two runs), Cassidy Hendrix (two runs), Summer Cunningham, Emily-Gooch King, Kayla Bryant, Makiya Maness, Shay Williams, and Abbey Thomas each with one. Basketball Cheerleader starting out strong By: XAVIER COLE Staff Writer

Try-outs have begun for the 2010-2011 Haywood High basketball cheerleaders. Thursday April 22 an informational meeting was held in the HHS library. This meeting covered the requirements, process, as well as other aspects of the two week long try-outs. Try-out began this past Monday, with first round of eliminations on Friday April 30. During the first week of try-outs, the ladies have worked on cheers,

chants, and a dance routine. The pressure on the ladies will intensify following the first round of eliminations. Second round of eliminations will take place May 7, and the

official announcement is projected for May 10. The cheerleaders are under the direction of Coaches Shalondria Hardin and Tanesha Walker. Working closely

with football cheerleading sponsor Mitzi Bryant, these sponsors plan to bridge the gap and bring the two squads closer together.

Softball Tournament

Haywood County will be hosting the softball district tournament beginning May 6 at the softball complex on Boyd Avenue.

HJH Sports Awards

The Haywood Junior High sports teams will recognize their athletes May 17 at 6 p.m.
