Diebold named HHS Career and Tech Director Supt. Marlon King recently named Haywood High School Career and Technical Culinary Arts teacher Pam Diebold as the new Interim Director of Career and Technical Education. She follows Michelle Tillman who is now an assistant principal at HHS. Diebold comes to the directorship after teaching 10 years in the department. Pam graduated from high school in Ballard County, Kentucky, and earned a degree in Family and Community Sciences Education from Lambuth University. She received her Occupational Foods Endorsement in 2002 from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and completed her Master’s in Educational Leadership from American Inter Continental University in 2009.

After working in Childrens’ Services for 15 years and as a social worker in Brownsville for the Carl Perkins Child Abuse Center, she began working for Haywood County Schools as a Culinary Arts teacher in 2000. Diebold has been very active in her occupational field and has received several awards of excellence, including a National Award of FCCLA Master Advisor in 2007,and in 2008 she received the Tennessee Outstanding FCCLA Advisor Award. She has coordinated local and state competitive events since 2005 and was selected to lead the national events in 2011. She has served as an officer in the professional organization for teachers of Family and Consumer

This summer has just flown by so quickly. Summers don’t seen to last as long as they did when I was younger. It used to feel as if anything and everything could happen during the summer. Not so much anymore. Summer goes by too fast. Summer is almost over and school will be starting soon. It is so hard to believe that school will be starting back in a few weeks. Have you completed your summer reading list yet? Here is the library schedule for the month of August. We have some great things planned, put them on your calendars and we hope to see you at the library soon! To d d l e r Time will be offered Monday, August 2 at 11 AM. We have stories, a coloring craft, and a light snack. All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to attend Toddler Time at the library. Toddler Time will also be offered Monday, August 16 at 11 AM as well. Friends Night at the Library will be offered Tuesday, August 17 at 7 PM. Our guest speaker for the evening will be B. Eliot, author of “Why the Women . . .?” Please join us for an evening of fun. All are invited to attend. Just a side note – Would you be interested in serving on the Friends of the Library Board to help coordinate the Friends evenings and other Friends projects? If so, please contact Katherine at the library 772-9534. Lunch & Learn will be offered Wednesday, August 25 at noon in the Library Meeting Room. The guest speaker will be announced shortly. Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert. Let’s Lunch & Learn at the Library!

Sciences (TATFACS), and was a regional representative in 2009 -2010. Diebold was recently inducted as the Vice President for 20102011. She also served as the site coordinator for the after-school program (AAA) last year at the high school. She is a member and officer in the Haywood County Teachers Association. “Career and Technical Education is my passion,” Diebold said. “Working with students to help them attain skills and prepare them for life invigorates me. I look forward to a great year with teachers that strive to assure that Haywood County students succeed.” She and her husband, Barry, have three sons.

Haywood High School golf and volleyball players wanted Haywood High School students, including incoming ninth grade students who are interested in playing golf for the Tomcats should contact Coach Jim Frazier at Anderson Early Childhood Center. Students can either come by the school or call 772-9053 for more information. Golfers will need to have their own clubs. Girls, including in-coming freshmen who are interested in playing volleyball and boys and girls interested in running cross country at Haywood High School should also contact Coach Frazier at the school or at 772-9053.
