Carl Perkins holds golf tourney Continuing in charitable golf tournaments held at the Brownsville Country Club, the INSOUTH Bank and the Exchange Club-Carl Perkins Center held its annual golf tournament September 16. All of the proceeds from the tournament went to beneﬁt the John Clinton Haywood County Carl Perkins Center.
Approximately 18 teams appeared for the tournament action, having some fun and helping for a good cause. Winners are as follows: First place Team: Rad Ellington, Clint Dickerson, Larry Cupples, Lane Lewis; Second place Team: Larry Lindsey, Bate Bond, Milton Legions, Travis Baggett; Third place Team: Eric Coure, Steven Brooks, Bobby Hart, Kenny Knox
HJH loses in Homecoming
The HJH Warriors hosted Crestview Middle School for Homecoming last night. The Warriors offense posted good numbers but the Chargers couldn’t be controlled by the Warriors defense. Malik Walker led the rushing attack as he carried the ball for 146 yards and 3 touchdowns. Martravious Washington contributed with 3 catches for 28 yards, and Nathan Lilly had a 2-point conversion catch. The Warriors lost 34 to 22 on a well-fought game. The next game is against Fayette West September 14, away. Homecoming Week was celebrated with three spirit days where the students dressed up Thursday like a nerd, Friday tacky, and Tuesday
in red and blue for spirit points. The students also participated in a banner contest. At the pep rally the eighth graders won ﬁrst place in the dress up contest with 430 participants. The seventh and eighth graders tied for points from the banner contest. Mrs. Waddell’s room won ﬁrst place and Mrs. Youngman’s room 2nd place and Mrs. Spain’s room third place. The eighth graders won the most points for their enthusiastic cheering at the pep rally, and won the spirit stick for the most spirited class overall. Also at the pep rally the homecoming court was introduced. There were ﬁve seventh grade candidates and ﬁve eighth grade candidates. Ragan Avant was escorted by NathanYoder,IdaliasFlagg

The seventh graders included Hannah Stanley escorted by Nathan Lily, Gracie Sills escorted by Drake Hooper, Mary Catherine Currie escorted by Cullen Kirk, Kaila Crew escorted by Thomas King, and McKenzie Scott escorted by Christian Hooser. At the game the two queens were crowned. For the seventh grade it was McKenzie Scott. For the eighth grade it was Abbey Morris. Even though the Warriors lost the game it was a night full of celebration.
