Corner Katherine Horn

Spring has sprung – yea!!!! We love seeing all the trees and flowers bloom all over town. It is always so pretty. We have been having some work done to the library roof and it is looking quite pretty as well. Please pardon the occasional noise, the repaired roof is worth a little noise and dust. Thank you for your patience. The month of April has arrived. Here is a list of events happening here at the library: Toddler Time – April 19 at 11 a.m. Join us for stories, coloring and a light snack. All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to attend.

Lunch & Learn – April 28 at 12 noon in the Meeting Room. We are trying to coordinate for some of the other mayoral candidates to come and be with us. We are finding it a bit difficult to contact some of these fine gentlemen. If Mr. James Peace, Mr. Larry Fitts, and Mr. Mike Dew would please contact Katherine at the library to arrange a time (either April 28 for two people or May 26 for one additional person along with Mr. Ashworth) to come speak, we would greatly appreciate it. Let’s Lunch & Learn at the Library! We’ve added some new

books to our collections. Here is a brief list of some of the new titles: “Aunt Dimity Down Under” by Nancy Atherton “Secret Whispers” by V. C. Andrews “Money to Burn” by James Grippando “The New Codependency” by Melody Beattie “Big Girl” by Danielle Steel “Shattered” by Karen Robards “I Know Where I’m Going: Katherine Hepburn” by Charlotte Chandler “Iron River” by T. Jefferson Parker “The Last Illusion” by Rhys Bowen Happy Reading!

Students perform “magic” with their work On Friday, March 5, first and second honor roll students celebrated their achievements for the 4th Six Weeks with a visit from a very friendly magician. East Side students and staff were amazed as he performed tricks and encouraged the students to continue to work hard at their studies and to always have good character. Congratulations to those students and keep up the “magical work.”

Coach Grant teaches motor skills in PE Coach Grant is teaching hand and eye coordination and fine motor skills using juggling in PE class at East Side Elementary. The students are practicing with colorful sheer handkerchiefs and enjoying every minute of it! Here a student is trying his best to imitate Coach Grant as he models.

ES students excel in reading participation Mrs. Peggy Jackson of the UT Extension office presented East Side Principal Opal Hay with a trophy in recognition of her students’ participation in the Reading Wall of Fame for the 4th Six Weeks. East Side students read more books than any other school in the county that participated in the program. Mrs. Hay gladly accepted and encouraged students to keep on reading. In addition, Mrs. Jackson spoke with the parents in the audience and gave them examples of ways to strengthen reading skills using newspapers at home.
