Lady Warriors continue season

The Haywood Junior High Warriors continued their winning ways March 29 against Lauderdale Middle School of Ripley. HJH won both games: the first game 7-6 in extra innings and the second 5-3. In game one, Allie Jacocks made a hit to send Shay Williams home to break the tie. Haywood leading hitters were Kayla Bryant, Cassidy Hendrix, and Summer Cunningham. Warrior catcher was Makiya Maness, with pitcher Kaitlyn McBride striking out 10 batters. In the varsity game two 5-3 victory, leading hitters were Kayla Bryant and Kaitlyn McBride. Pitcher Cassidy Hendrix struck out 12 batters to help secure the win for HJH.

Home run!!

The following day the Lady Warriors traveled to Covington to face off against the Crestview Lady Grizzles in JV and varsity competition. Unfortunately, Haywood was defeated 4-1 in junior varsity action. Leading Hitters included Amanda Tindle and Lauren Markowski. JV game pitcher was Abbey Thomas and catcher Shay Williams. The varsity Lady Warriors were also defeated by a score of 4-7. Game pitcher was Cassidy Hendrix with catcher Makiya Maness. Haywood leading hitters were Shay Williams and Allie Jacocks. The next Lady Warrior softball game will be April 13 at Dyersburg. This year’s team is coached by Head Coach Holly Pipkin and Assistant coaches: Greg Killen and Tom Young.

While Brownsvillians John Gallaspy (L) and Mike Perry (R) were doubling on these two big Toms opening day of turkey season this past Saturday, fellow sportsman, David Prince, COO of Insouth Bank decided to wet a line, resulting in this twelve-pound bass. The bass was released unharmed in a local lake. The turkeys were released to the Easter dinner table.
