Welcome

This is Grantham’s first ever arts trail, born of a desire to bring art out of galleries and into community spaces, create more opportunities for artists to share their work and to showcase creative talent from across South Kesteven. Artists will take up residence in venues and shop windows around the town to display and sell a variety of arts and crafts. (See map on pg 14 for details and opening times.) There will also be the opportunity for visitors to get involved and take part in some exciting workshops and activities. In addition, this year Grantham Arts Trail is part of Imagineer Productions’ Bridge - a new outdoor experience that sees a bridge appear in the centre of Grantham - so there will be plenty to see and do across the town on Sat 7 and Thu 12 to Sunday 15 September including pop-up events, community performances and a spectacular aerial show in Grantham Market Place on Saturday 14 September.

2

It’s an exciting year and we hope you will explore the town, take the opportunity to get involved in some workshops, meet our makers and be inspired by our fantastic home-grown art.

Thank-yous...

This year’s Arts Trail would not have been possible without the support of the following shops, venues and people: Grantham Museum • St Wulfram’s Church Grantham House • The Garden Yard Blue Owl Art • Paul Letchworth Studios The Salvation Army Shop • Electromist Melton Mowbray Building Society • The Works Yorkshire Bank • Teaspoon Organised by Dawn Wesselby Admin Support by Mandy Pickersgill Design & Publicity by Claire Carrington It would also have been impossible without InvestSK, who covered the cost of all print, and Imagineer Productions who supported our programmed artists. We hope you enjoy Grantham Arts Trail 2019 and see it grow in the years to come, putting Grantham and South Kesteven firmly on the map as a hub of creative and artistic talent. www.granthamarts.org

Bridge Project 2019

Grantham Market Place, Thu 12 - Sat 14 September - A giant bridge installation will appear in the

Market Place and host a variety of pop-up community events throughout the day. Imagined by artists, made by designers and engineers and inspired by you – Bridge is a project for our time that brings people together in unexpected and joyful ways.

Under the Bridge: The Bridge is the setting for performances, workshops and conversations as Grantham’s community groups respond to the ‘bridge’ theme. Check out the blackboard to find out what’s happening each day.

An Experience in Two Parts: Take a pair of headphones and find out the meaning of the broken bridge. As with every good story, there are two sides to listen to – you can choose to experience either or both. This experience lasts for ten minutes, with multiple sessions throughout the day. Check the blackboard for details.

Bridge Stories Podcast: Sit in front of the bridge, watch the world go by and listen to a 10 minute podcast collection of stories about bridge-building and bridge-burning.

Outdoor Performance, Sat 14 September, 8.30pm - FREE

Bridge culminates in a new and extraordinary evening performance with an international cast of performers. With gravity-defying circus acrobatics, parkour, theatre and live music, some agile engineers attempt to bridge the gap and find it much, much harder than they thought. www.imaginebridge.co.uk
