Searching for meaning in leading Dr. Uldarico Rex Dumdum’s philosophy on developing student leadership comes partly from President James Monroe. It goes like this: The question we should ask at the end of an education is not, ‘What has the student learned?’ but ‘What has the student become?’ Dr. Dumdum wants his students to become something more. It’s why he asks them to dig more deeply into concepts of business, leadership, and self-discovery than they probably ever have before.

“I help students become reflective practitioners, to recognize romanticized leadership that deceives followers with the promise of easy solutions. Instead, students change hearts and mindsets— including their own. It’s a more challenging kind of leadership that makes lasting change.”

Uldarico Rex Dumdum, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Business and Managerial Science Department
