WHO ARE WE? McKinley Vintners was established in 1986 by Peter and Di McKinley. We're an Agency House and wholesaler based in Central London, just south of the River. We import champagnes, still wines and spirits from all over the world and work with a number of 'boutique' producers (it's an overused phrase but it does describe our suppliers) who share our passion for quality and our belief that individuality and value are more important than volume and branding.

Champagne Gosset Founded in Aÿ in 1584, Champagne Gosset is the oldest Wine House in Champagne and is one of the smallest of the well known brands producing just over 1 million bottles per year. While the UK champagne market has undoubtedly faced a

REIMS

number of challenges over recent years, Gosset continues to cement its position as the champagne of choice for the independent trade. We remain focused on supporting our independent customers, both off and on trade, and Gosset is now one of the few, if not the only, major champagne brand not found in supermarkets. The last five years have seen great developments at Gosset, not least the new packaging, launched a couple of years ago and the new cuvée, Grand Blanc de Blancs which has received tremendous praise from customers and critics alike. This year will see more exciting launches so be sure to keep an eye out! The Gosset style continues to single the House out from the competition, offering a real point of difference to champagne buyers and champagne consumers alike. The extended ageing in the cellars, deep under Epernay and Aÿ, creates the wonderfully rich, toasty, biscuity style for which the cuvées are now famous. If you haven’t yet tried Gosset, this is the year to make the change. You won’t be sorry.

Burgundy When it comes to Burgundy, we are delighted to offer a wide range of wines from some extremely talented winemakers. We have worked with the Bourgogne de Vigne en Verre group for many years now and have watched as the ‘younger generation’ of winemakers have stepped forward to continue the excellent work started by their parents and grandparents. Working with such a group allows us to offer the UK market a range of wines which you won’t see in supermarkets or major specialist retailers, but the list is much more extensive than the wines we’ve highlighted on the following pages. If you are interested in shipping Burgundy on an excellars basis, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will lead you through what is really a very simple process that allows you to add real depth and variety to your Burgundy selection. In addition to the BVV group, we also work with a couple of very small producers in this region who have been a part of the McKinley Vintners portfolio for so long, they probably remember the days before fax machines, never mind email! These producers are ‘boutique’ in the true meaning of the word, taking a ‘hands on’ approach to every aspect of the DIJON winemaking process, include the design of the labels in some cases. The Perraton brothers took over from their father René with whom we worked for many years while Freddie Prain has been producing fantastic Chablis for many many years. Both the producers have been longstanding supporters of McKinley Vintners and it is wonderful to see the ongoing success of their wines. N

Although the UK market seems to have fallen out of love with Beaujolais, we continue to be pleasantly surprised by the reaction of customers to the wines of Florent and Laurent Dufour and Guénaël Jambon. Even customers who aren’t keen to list Beaujolais are bowled over by the ripe red fruit flavours of these wines.

Burgundy LES VIGNERONS DE MANCEY Around eighty vignerons make up the Vignerons de Mancey, part of the Bourgogne de Vigne en Verre group. Located near Tournus they work together to produce some of the best value wines Burgundy has to offer. As with all our suppliers, we constantly review the wines which we offer from BVV to ensure they are best suited to the UK market. Last year’s ‘new boy’ was the Mâcon Blanc Villages from Domaine Touzot which was a big hit and the wines of Domaine Moreau have continued to impress. The two ‘Les Cadoles’ wines were added to our list in 2011 with the aim of offering excellent value Burgundy wines for both the off and on trades. The straightforward, easy drinking style of these wines, combined with their attractive price points has ensured they have been a great hit, especially with our restaurant customers. 2-5 CASES DPD

DOMAINE LUCIEN THOMAS Located in Prissé in Saône-et-Loire, the Domaine has been run for the last 20 years by Lucien Thomas and by his father and grandfather before him. During this time the Domaine has grown in size from 10 to 19 hectares under vine. Working methods have changed and are now aimed at lower yields. The resulting Saint Véran is a magnificent wine, pure, precise and perfectly balanced. A much underrated appellation which deserves a closer look. WHITE Saint Véran Tradition. Domaine Lucien Thomas

CHATEAU DE LA SAULE Château de la Saule, which has just celebrated its 200th birthday, is one of the most prestigious estates in the appellation of Montagny and Alain Roy is as lively as his crisp and wonderfully consistent wines. His Montagny is a firm favourite among on-trade and off-trade customers alike with every vintage showing great minerality, freshness, and fantastic complexity. Alain chooses to blend different parcels of his Premier Cru wines from the Montagny appellation to achieve the white flower aromas and lively rounded finish of the Château de la Saule. DOMAINE CHOFFLET-VALDENAIRE Located in Russilly, a hamlet of Givry in the Côte Chalonnaise, Domaine Chofflet-Valdenaire stretches over 14.5 hectares, all concentrated in the same appellation – Givry. Denis Valdenaire began cultivating the vines in 1998 with his father-in-law, Jean Chofflet, and now runs the Domaine with his wife, Edith. Denis finds the wines of the Givry appellation complex yet versatile and consequently, exciting to work with. He creates elegant reds bursting with fruit. The Clos de Choué in particular expresses its terroir with notes of blackcurrant and ripe red berry fruit. Burgundy CÔTE CHALONNAISE

DOMAINE DU MEIX-FOULOT The wines from this excellently situated Domaine are a reflection of the careful input of sixth generation owner Paul de Launay and his winemaker daughter Agnès. They have particularly old vines with a substantial proportion over 50 years old with low yields. The red wines see 14-18 months in oak (30% new) and are bottled unfiltered. They are full of well-structured Pinot fruit with ripe tannins and have a fine capacity for ageing, making them seriously sought after among our restaurant customers especially. The white Mercurey has delightful notes of toasted hazelnuts and is a beautifully structured, well rounded wine with great weight. 2-5 CASES DPD

Mercurey 1er Cru "Clos du Chateau de Montaigu Monopole"

DOMAINE MICHEL BRIDAY Stéphane Briday, son of Domaine founder Michel Briday, creates wines that are perfectly balanced, showing lots of fruit and complexity. But Stéphane is quick to point out that the complexity is provided by the terroir – not an intense maturation process. He believes that the delicacy of the aroma of the wine is essential and the use of oak is adjusted for each ‘climat’ to ensure it is the freshness that dominates. The Bridays now own 16 hectares, offering a fantastic selection of wines, both red and white, from the Rully appellation. Ably assisted by his wife, Sandrine, Stéphane produces perfectly balanced, complex wines which ‘explode with fruit’. Sadly, due to violent hailstorms causing extensive damage in the vineyard, the Premier Cru Gresigny is not available this year but has been replaced by the Rully ‘Clos de Remenot’ Monopole 2011. DOMAINE JEAN-FRANCOIS BACHELET Located in Dezize-les-Maranges, near Santenay, the domaine of Jean-Francois Bachelet covers 15 hectares and produces a range of wines including Santenay, Chassagne Montrachet and Pommard. Jean-Francois is assisted in the running of the domaine by his two sons, Marc and Alex, and between them they produce red wines which are delicate and elegant with beautiful berry fruit characteristics, showing none of the rustic edge which can sometimes be found on the wines of Santenay. DOMAINE BITOUZET-PRIEUR The Bitouzet-Prieur family Domaine has its origins in two of the Côte de Beaune’s most prestigious villages: Meursault and Volnay. The headquarters of this 13 hectare Domaine are in the latter, in a village house built over very ancient cellars, while their cuverie is in the former. Francois Bitouzet, son of Vincent, has added a personal touch to the structured, stylish wines created by his father. Their wines, marked by the nuances of their parcels of vines, are supple and elegant. Francois's studies in the South of France have helped the Domaine achieve “agriculture raisonnée” status. The Bitouzet-Prieur wines age very well and their consistency, even in lesser vintages, is unique. Their Meursaults are excellent examples aged in 100% new oak with fine balance while the Volnay shows gentle red fruit flavours and a hint of violets. WHITE Meursault "Les Corbins"

DOMAINE EDMOND CORNU ET FILS Ladoix is a sleepy village at the top of the Côte de Beaune with a splendid view of the slope of the famous Corton vineyards. The Cornu family has vineyards in a number of the villages of the Côte de Beaune including Corton Bressandes, Aloxe Corton, Chorey-les-Beaune, Ladoix and Côte de Beaune Villages. The common characteristics of Pierre Cornu’s wines are generous fruit with elegantly rounded tannins. More specifically they successfully reflect their terroir ranging from the light and delicious Chorey-les-Beaune and Côte de Beaune Villages to the more structured and longer lived Ladoix, Aloxe-Corton and Corton. 2-5 CASES DPD

DOMAINE JEROME CHEZEAUX The Domaine is situated in the village of Premeaux-Prissey, just outside Nuits-Saint-Georges and covers 12 hectares exclusively in the Côte de Nuits. The Chezeaux family established the property in 1971 and Jérôme himself has been in charge since 1993. We are particularly taken with Jérôme’s Vosne-Romanées, appreciated for their elegance, mellowness and discreet tannins, and are delighted to add his Nuits-Saint-Georges wines to our 2012 list. DOMAINE CHRISTIAN CLERGET The vines at Domaine Christian Clerget are worked by combining traditional methods with modern techniques, resulting in wines which are beautifully balanced. The origins of the Domaine date back to the beginning of the 20th century with several generations of the Clerget family amassing small parcels of vines throughout the villages of Vougeot, Chambolle Musigny and Flagey-Echezeaux. In 1996 Christian took over the Domaine and a new winery was built in 1998 to further develop the practice of ‘natural’ winemaking, without the use of herbicides or insecticides. WHITE 2008/10

Burgundy CÔTE DE NUITS

DOMAINE GEORGES LIGNIER & FILS BenoĂŽt Stehly, nephew of Georges Lignier, now runs the Domaine from the family home in the heart of Morey St Denis, a house which has been inhabited by vignerons of the Lignier family for several generations. The family owns 100 parcels of land which make up 15 hectares of vines in some of the finest plots of vineyards in the Cote de Nuits, including the Grand Crus of Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint Denis, Charmes-Chambertin, BonnesMares and Premier Crus of Morey-St-Denis Clos des Ormes and Gevrey-Chambertin Les Combottes. Out of these vineyards they produce a range of serious Burgundies that reflect the quality of their terroir as well as the hand of a committed winemaker. In recent vintages the quality has been outstanding; these are rich, powerful, ageworthy Burgundies, somehow both traditional and vibrant. 2-5 CASES DPD

Burgundy DOMAINE PERRATON FRERES Christophe and Franck Perraton continue to make brilliant wines, following in the footsteps of their father, René Perraton. Still immaculate cellars, still amazing wines. The brothers have introduced two small changes, one is the labelling and the other is the introduction of a ‘lightly oaked’ wine, the ‘Excellence’. Selected from the oldest and the best vines, this cuvée is as beautifully balanced as you’d expect and challenges many wines from grander appellations. We’re delighted to announce that we will be adding more wines to the range from the Perraton Brothers later in 2013. Watch this space. 2-5 CASES DPD

Chablis DOMAINE D'ELISE In 1982 Fréderic Prain took over this Domaine which is fabulously situated on the upper slopes of the hillside above Premier Cru Côte de Lechet. The grapes are harvested as late as possible to obtain maximum ripeness and, after fermentation, the wine is kept on its lees for several months before being bottled. Fréderic sells a proportion of his crop to negoçiants keeping the best selection for his own Domaine. The Côte de Lechet has been an excellent addition to our portfolio. Strictly limited in availability, it is a stunning example of Premier Cru Chablis – crisp and beautifully balanced. 2-5 CASES DPD

Bordeaux Our Bordeaux portfolio has grown over recent years to include the 'Direct Bordeaux Wines' group - this allows us to provide an extensive range of great value Bordeaux wines from appellations you will know, but from producers you may not. Creating a Bordeaux offering is always fraught with challenges, the UK's links with 'claret' are well documented and everyone has an opinion on what good Bordeaux should, or shouldn't offer. You won't find first growths here but you will find a selection of top quality, great value wines produced by men and women who are passionate about what they do. It goes without saying that many more wines are available ex-cellars from all these Bordeaux producers, so please do contact us if you would like more details on any of the Ch창teaux listed on the following pages. Furthermore, if there is a specific wine or vintage that interests you, do get in touch and we will do our best to help you.

CHATEAU DE FRANCE www.chateau-de-france.com Château de France was built on the foundations of an ancient manor house, beneath which the original arched cellars still remain. The cellars and the house date from the 17th century and the property has retained the name of the foundations on which it was built. Now owned by the Thomassin family, the Château has 40 hectares of vineyards located on one of the highest slopes in Léognan. The wine producing lands in Pessac are some of the oldest in Bordeaux .The red wines are recognised for their combination of power and elegance, while the white wines are appreciated for their ability to age well. The vineyards of Chateau de France are in the privileged position of being located on outcrops of deep gravel with a clay-chalk subsoil. Bordeaux CHATEAU PUY CASTERA www.puycastera.fr Located between Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe, the 28-hectare Château Puy Castera vineyard is owned by Alix Marès, a very dynamic young woman who is a fully qualified agronomic engineer following the traditional Médoc methods of wine-making. The winery was started in 1975 by Alix’s father Henri Marès who worked closely with oenologist Professor Emile Peynaud to build a special cellar which uses gravity throughout the wine making process, from the moment the harvested grapes arrive to the point at which the wine is put into barrel. Alix pays extreme attention to the soil by practicing the concept of ‘intelligent pest management’ in the vineyards. She is advised by one of the Médoc’s best oenologists, Jacques Boissenot who has worked with Chateaux Margaux, Mouton-Rothschild and Palmer amongst others. 2-5 CASES DPD

Alsace WUNSCH ET MANN www.wunsch-mann.fr Long-standing members of the McKinley Vintners’ portfolio, the Mann family have been vignerons in Alsace since 1793 and began to produce wines for themselves in 1948. The Wunsch et Mann vineyards are located around the village of Wettolsheim and the family has substantial holdings in the Grand Crus of Hengst and Steingrubler. The wines are sensitively produced, following principles of “viticulture raisonée” and reflecting the particular characteristics of each vintage. Organic methods are already practiced and the 2011 vintage will be the first to be certified as fully organic. These wines are some of the ‘quiet stars’ of our portfolio, consistently winning awards and praise from customers and journalists alike so if you are yet to try them, please ask your sales representative for samples. The Wunsch et Mann team produce an extensive range of Alsace varieties and although we are not able to list all of their wines here in the UK, the full range is available ex-cellars so please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to see their full list. 2-5 CASES DPD

BAUDRY-DUTOUR When Laurent Gosset (of the original Gosset family) advised us he was planning to sell Château de la Grille, we were delighted to learn that the new owners were the dynamic partnership of Christophe Baudry and JeanMartin Dutour who have been working together for the past 10 years and producing stunning Chinon Wines. Christophe is a third generation winemaker whose family are natives of Chinon. Jean-Martin moved here in 1993 after gaining his viti-oenologue diploma and immediately turned his energies and passion towards Chinon wine. Domaine du Roncée is a 55 hectare plot in the heart of the Chinon appellation and the Clos de Marronniers is a full and generous wine which is drinking beautifully now but will benefit from a few years ageing. Our old favourite Château de la Grille continues to produce ‘vins de garde’ so it is good to be able to offer the more forward Domaine du Roncée. Rhône LYON

Peter McKinley has always had a passion for the wines of the Rhône Valley and the properties with whom we have chosen to work reflect this. Château Unang, the stunning Ventoux estate dating from the 9th Century is a long standing member of the McKinley Vintners portfolio and we have enjoyed watching the transformation of the wines under the careful eye of James and Joanna King.

Last year we added the wines of Château Maucoil and Domaine Michelas St Jemms to our portfolio, offering wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the Northern Rhône respectively. The Crozes-Hermitage has been a huge hit with customers and the Syrah de Maucoil is definitely worth a try if you're looking for something a bit different for your list.

Domaine Duseigneur is a more recent addition with the bio-dynamic principals of the estate initially creating some skepticism amongst consumers before being wholly embraced as the market turns towards more 'natural' winemaking principals. The straightforward, honest wines of Domaine Clavel were introduced into our portfolio a couple of years ago and they have won some fans, especially for their excellent value Côtes du Rhône Regulus wines and the fruit-packed Vega Merlot.

Rhône DOMAINE MICHELAS ST JEMMS www.michelas-st-jemms.fr Domaine Michelas St Jemms is a family owned domaine located in the Northern Rhône commune of Mercurol close to Tain l'Hermitage, about 90km south of Lyon and 140km north of Avignon. Originally founded by Robert and Yvette Michelas in 1961, the domaine is now managed by the sisters and brother team of Sylvie, Florence, Corinne and Sebastien. The Michelas Saint Jemms vineyards are spread throughout the Drôme and Ardèche regions with 50 hectares of vines planted across the 4 appellations of Crozes-Hermitage, Saint Joseph, Cornas and Hermitage. Most of the harvesting is done by hand due to the extreme angle of the slopes in this area of the Rhône Valley and horses are often used in place of machinery. The winery is located in Mercurol and the family have recently made significant investment into the facilities to ensure everything is in place to make the best wines possible. There is a huge barrel room with over 100 barrels, 75% of which are new oak and the remaining between 3 and 4 years old. They are always looking to experiment and improve their wines and have introduced some Acacia barrels and also conical tanks, specifically for the white wines. 2-5 CASES DPD

Rhône CHATEAU UNANG www.chateau-unang.com Château Unang lies among the foothills of Mont Ventoux, producing exceptional wines from 20 hectares of vines, most of which are more than 30 years old. Owners James and Joanna King’s overriding principal is to work with respect for both the local and wider environment seeking balance in everything they do. The high altitude of the vineyards and the effect of the Mistral wind give healthy, disease free grapes with complex aromas and flavours. The Kings follow organic farming methods and the whites will be fully accredited from the 2012 vintage with the rosé and reds following in 2013. The varieties grown are typical of those found in the Rhône Valley - Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cinsault, Rousanne and Clairette – yet they achieve an unique personality here facing the Plateau du Vaucluse. The average yield is only 35 hectolitres per hectare resulting in wonderfully rich, complex and expressive wines which conjure up images of long lazy lunches enjoyed beneath a hot Provençal sun. 2-5 CASES DPD

Rhône DOMAINE DUSEIGNEUR www.domaineduseigneur.com Domaine Duseigneur is located on the West bank of the Rhône Valley, near the picturesque village of SaintLaurent-des-Arbres, and in view of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The 70-acre Estate, which was founded in 1967 by Jean Duseigneur, straddles the appellations of Côtes-du-Rhône Villages Laudun and Lirac. Jean Duseigneur immediately recognised the potential of the hilly terrain with its red clay soil to give rise to an exceptional terroir. He started developing his vineyard based on the knowledge that it would be the soil which would secure the long-term future of the vineyard and unique qualities of the grapes grown on that land. He made the decision that the fine balance of the soil’s unique structure and ecology, which had evolved over time, must be maintained by purely natural means and that he would grow his grapes without the use of pesticides or other chemicals. This visionary philosophy, which was contrary to trends at the time, was already close to the modern biodynamic farming concept. The unique legacy put in place by Jean 40 years ago, was handed to the care of his two sons, Bernard and Frederic in 1992. They share the same passion for the soil as their father and have continued the heritage of high quality wine making using the traditional methods developed by the family over five generations. Since 1997 the Duseigneur Estate has been meeting the requirements of organic farming. However, wanting to take this concept even further the Duseigneur brothers fully embraced biodynamic farming in 2004. The Domaine is now a member of Biodyvin and thus certified fully Bio-Dynamic. 2-5 CASES DPD

Rhône DOMAINE CLAVEL www.domaineclavel.com Located in the Southern Rhône Valley, in the Gard department, Domaine Clavel encompasses 80 hectares of vineyards across 3 appellations: Côtes du Rhône, the Côtes du Rhône Villages of Saint-Gervais and Chusclan, and both Vin de Pays d’Oc and du Gard. The vineyards are established on chalk/clay hillsides with a southfacing exposure, some vines are over one hundred years old and yield grapes of an outstanding quality enabling Claire Clavel and her winemaking team to produce wines of a great elegance and finesse. The owners, Françoise & Denis Clavel, are very environmentally aware and their viticultural practices reflect their commitment to protecting nature, as well as producing fantastic wines. Their philosophy combines a knowledge accumulated over several generations, a real ‘hands-on’ passion for wine, and a constant pursuit of quality and excellence. In January 2011 they joined ‘Terra Vitis’ – a group bringing together winemakers from all over France who recognise the importance of traceability in the vineyard and are active followers of sustainable winegrowing and winemaking techniques. 2-5 CASES DPD

Rhône CHATEAU MAUCOIL Château Maucoil is situated in the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The site was first inhabited by the Romans who established a settlement here due to the discovery of a natural spring, close to the Via Agrippa, the Roman road between Lyon and Marseille. The spring continues to exist and is known as ‘La Source de Château Maucoil’. The presence of actual vineyards at Château Maucoil can be traced back to the 17th century when the property was owned by Monsieur Joseph de la Pise who was the archiviste for the Dutch Royal Family at the time. The Château is now owned by Madame Bénédicte Arnaud-Bonnet and her husband Charles. Madame Bonnet’s family purchased the Château and the surrounding historical vineyards in 1995. They now own 30 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. 5 hectares in Côtes du Rhône and 8 hectares in the VDP Vaucluse. The Bonnet family follow sustainable practices and no chemical fertilisers or pesticides are used. They started the conversion to full organic status in 2011.

Provence A few years ago, Provence was famous for sunshine, Peter Mayle, and English holidaymakers and the less said about the wines the better! But thanks to a number of passionate winemakers, including Château la Mascaronne's Tom Bové, the wines of Provence are now being taken seriously by consumers and critics alike. Our relationship with the winemaking qualities of this region began in Tom Bové's days at the beautiful Château Miraval, one of the most stunning Estates in Provence, and we were delighted to continue working with Tom and his team at Château la Mascaronne, deep in the Côtes de Provence. A huge amount of time and effort has been poured into turning the rather wild vineyards of Château la Mascaronne into a picture perfect Provençal property. Tom was drawn to La Mascaronne because of its amazing terroir and he firmly believed he could repeat and even better his successes at Château Miraval. We think he was right – why not see what you think? Much has been written about Château Miraval over the past 12 months, and not all of it to do with the wine! But, the property continues to produce excellent wines and we are lucky to be able to offer some of the much coveted Rosé to our customers.

Provence CHÂTEAU LA MASCARONNE Château la Mascaronne lies in the heart of Provence, just outside the village of Le Luc, and sits in the centre of its beautiful 45ha of vineyards comprising rolling hills of vines which grow on chalk/clay soil covered in stones. The wines are prime examples of the best that Provence can offer and honestly reflect the excellent terroir for which La Mascaronne is renowned. The Domaine produces some of the finest and longest-lived red wines of the region – complex, powerful with supple dark fruit flavours - and it was for this reason that Tom Bové acquired the Domaine and embarked on an ambitious programme of restoration and investment in the latest wine-making technology and viticultural techniques. The gently sloping vineyards consist of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Cinsault and Ugni-Blanc with new plantings of Rolle (Vermentino). The wines produced at La Mascaronne are all within the Côtes de Provence appellation and sustainable viticulture practices are employed. The grapes are hand harvested into small containers and sorted both in the vineyard and at the cellar door, again by hand. The white will be labelled ‘Vita Bella’ from the 2011 vintage and the red will be labelled ‘Fazioli’ from the 2009 vintage. 2-5 CASES DPD

Provence CHATEAU MIRAVAL Dating from pre-Roman times, Miraval is one of the most beautiful wine domaines in Southern France. It is approached down a long winding lane through woods and vineyards with dramatic glimpses of the distant Gros Bésillon mountain through the trees. Situated close to the Via Aurelia - one of the five main roads radiating from Rome - it has always occupied an important place in history and first appeared on a map in the 1200s when it was a monastery. It still retains its historical magic with magnificent cascading stone-walled terraces, planted with thirteen different varieties of olives and vineyards flourishing on the valley floor, protected by the surrounding forest of evergreen and white oak, and parasol, aleppo and maritime pine. Recent changes in the ownership and winemaking at Château Miraval mean that the range of wines the Château now offers has altered though we are lucky enough to still have some Clara Lua and Play Bach available. Sadly Pink Floyd is no longer, and has been replaced by the Château Miraval Rosé. 2-5 CASES DPD

Portugal QUINTA DO TEDO Vincent and Kay Bouchard were among the first Port producers to practice “culture raisonable” (responsible and sustainable agricultural practices), and the winery was certified organic in 2010. The average age of the vines is thirty years, and their yield of 1.5 tons per acre (27 - 30 hectolitres per hectare) creates very concentrated flavours. Planting is closely-spaced (as is traditional in the Douro) on steep terraces of rocky schist soil. Eighteen varietals of red grape are planted, mainly Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cão, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Francesa. The vineyards are divided into five parcels, each separately vinified. All the grapes come from the 35 acres (14 hectares) of class "A" vineyards, owned by the Bouchards. The “A” rating from the Portuguese Instituto do Vinho do Porto, is the highest rating possible, equivalent to Grand Cru. Quinta do Tedo has a Single Quinta classification, the Portuguese equivalent to an Estate, Domaine or Azienda. The Quinta is bordered by the Tedo river to the west, the Douro River to the north, and to the east and southeast by large, carved feitoria stones which mark the landscape like sentries. These antique granite stones come from the first Douro appellation demarcation, dating back to 1756. 2-5 CASES DPD

ORION WINES After much searching we're delighted to be able to offer a new Pinot Grigio and Prosecco this year. We appreciate that both these wines are key to many customers and we had been looking to find a new producer with great wines at the right prices for a while. Luckily we think we have hit the jackpot with these 2 wines produced under the umbrella of Orion Wines. This stunning Pinot Grigo has flavours of citrus fruit, peaches and honeysuckle while the Prosecco offers a palate bursting with fresh peaches and apples, a refreshing acidity and good balance. Orion Wines is the brainchild of Luca Pomaro and winemaker Alessandro Michelon. Their aim is simply to produce the best and most interesting wines possible at fair prices and we think they have achieved this. Why not ask your salesperson for a sample and see if you agree? We look forward to adding more wines from Orion during the year. 2-5 CASES DPD

New Zealand New Zealand continues to be an area of great success for McKinley Vintners and it has been interesting to watch our agencies, Alpha Domus in Hawkes Bay, Lake Chalice in Marlborough and Mount Dottrel in Central Otago go from strength to strength. While recent years have undoubtedly been rough on other New World countries, we have found that the wines of New Zealand continue to garner respect from all aspects of the trade. The Alpha Domus range, from the warmer climate of the North Island, continues to win fans with their rich ‘Bordeaux Blends’ The Navigator and AD Aviator and their stunning Leonarda Late Harvest Semillon, while Lake Chalice’s Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc remains one of the best examples of an ever popular varietal. If Pinot Noir is your thing and you haven’t yet tried the wines of Mount Dottrel then do ask for samples.

New Zealand ALPHA DOMUS, HAWKES BAY

Emigrating from Holland in the early 1960s, the Ham family established themselves as nurserymen before going on to create Alpha Domus in 1990. They produced their first vintage in 1996 and joined our portfolio shortly thereafter. The estate has always been well known for its fantastic Bordeaux style reds but appreciation of their excellent range of whites is also growing. 2010 saw the introduction of new labels and names incorporating the family interest in all things aviation. This had been evident with the AD ‘The Aviator’ and ‘The Navigator’ and was rolled out across the rest of the wines with the introduction of ‘The Pilot’ labels. They have now restructured the range into three different levels to include the ‘AD’ range (The Aviator and Noble Selection) the ‘Alpha Domus Range’ (including The Navigator, The Wingwalker Viognier and the Barnstormer Syrah) and the ‘Pilot’ range (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Leonarda and Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon). 2-5 CASES DPD

New Zealand LAKE CHALICE, MARLBOROUGH www.lakechalice.com Lake Chalice was founded in 1989 when Wellington restaurateur Chris Gambitsis followed his dream and purchased the Falcon Vineyards which lie in the Wairau Valley. It is now one of the few remaining privately and locally owned wine companies in New Zealand producing stunning wines. Chris and fellow founder Phil Binnie, were joined in 1998 by winemaker Matt Thomson. All three share a simple philosophy: to make quality varietal wines from Marlborough grapes. The vineyards of Lake Chalice enjoy the climatic conditions which have made Marlborough the main wine-growing region for New Zealand. Warm, sunny autumn days, coupled with cool nights produce wines with a vibrancy and zing that are distinctively Marlborough and distinctively Lake Chalice. Their increased interest and understanding of the unique microclimates of the South Island means that the wines of Lake Chalice are growing in complexity and individuality. If you haven’t tried their delicious Pinot Noir then it is definitely worth a sip. The eye catching emblem of Lake Chalice Wines is the Karearea or New Zealand Falcon. In a land with no native mammals, this rare, endemic raptor has always flown fearlessly above the rest, and Lake Chalice Wines is a proud sponsor of the Wingspan Birds of Prey Trust, dedicated to preserving New Zealand's raptors. 2-5 CASES DPD

MOUNT DOTTREL, CENTRAL OTAGO Mount Dottrel wines are produced by father and son team Roy and Simon McCallum. Using their expertise from many years’ experience in pastoral agriculture, they planted a 42 hectare vineyard near Cromwell in Central Otago – the world’s most southerly wine region, amid the dramatic mountains and lakes of New Zealand’s South Island. Here, alluvial soils of glacial crushed schist rock combine with the cool-climate extremes of this outstanding wine region to produce the perfect conditions for growing quality Pinot Noir. The site has a telling terroir aspect that comes through in intriguing herbal and spicy characters, in addition to the typical cherry and plum flavours of the wider Central Otago region. The team behind Mount Dottrel has a simple philosophy, to produce high-quality Pinot Noir wines which will bring excitement and pleasure to their customers. We think they are succeeding. South Africa South Africa has always been an important area of our portfolio and we’re delighted to be able to work with three unique wineries, each highlighting a different side of the diverse wines produced by this beautiful country. Our introduction to the wines of South Africa came through Anne Cointreau who is the proud owner of the stunning Morgenhof Wine Estate, located in the foothills of the Simonsberg Mountain range in Stellenbosch. Morgenhof wines are classically South African with a slight French twist and their Brut Reserve and Estate blend are worthy of comparison to vintage Champagne or top Bordeaux. TULBAGH

Although a relatively new winery, based in Wellington, Doolhof can trace its roots back to the arrival of the French Huguenots and has just celebrated its 300th birthday. When Dennis and Dorothy Kerrison bought the Doolhof in 2003, it did not make its own wine but once Doolhof produced its own vintage in 2005 there was no going back and the wines have gone from strength to strength winning an enormous number of medals both in South Africa and abroadincluding a Decanter World Wine Awards Regional Trophy for the 2009 Pinotage.

South Africa MORGENHOF WINE ESTATE, STELLENBOSCH Morgenhof Wine Estate, situated on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountains, was originally established in 1692. The area is renowned for the production of the highest quality grapes which in turn produce stunning wines. Morgenhof consists of 212 hectares of which 74 hectares are under vine. The Estate has had many owners in its time but none quite as dynamic as Anne Cointreau. The Cointreaus are steeped in a tradition of cognac and liqueurs, and Anne can trace her family tree back to 1210 when the family was already in the business. She bought the Estate in 1993 and applied her considerable knowledge and experience to ensure its development into one of the very best Wine Estates in the whole of South Africa. When Anne arrived, many vines were planted in inappropriate locations and much work has been done, and continues to be done, to achieve perfection. The team at Morgenhof consists of many long-serving members including CEO Lee-Anne Bosman, marketing manager Helga Truter and vineyard manager Pieter Haasbroek. Last year saw the arrival of Andries de Klerk as the new winemaker and the first reports on his vintage have been extremely positive! 2-5 CASES DPD

South Africa DOOLHOF WINE ESTATE, WELLINGTON Doolhof, meaning labyrinth in Afrikaans, is located to the north of Wellington between the Groenberg, Limietberge and Hawekwa Mountains. The Estate produces elegant, high quality wines with distinctive characteristics that reflect the local terroir. The name labyrinth refers to the elaborate and varied terrain that offers a variety of soil types and microclimates. This favoured location amongst the mountains ensures that the average temperature is cooler than the Wellington norm allowing the grapes to develop gradually with depth and complexity. As with all relatively new wineries, the range at Doolhof continues to evolve and we will no doubt be adding to the range later this year. Following on from the success of the Cape Boar, we added the Cape Roan and Cape Loerie and are delighted to be able to continue to offer the Signatures Malbec as well as the ever popular Signatures Pinotage – a Pinotage for people who don’t like Pinotage! Other wines from Doolhof are available ex-cellars, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to discuss the options further. 2-5 CASES DPD

South Africa ROOIBERG WINERY, ROBERTSON VALLEY Situated in the picturesque Breede River Valley, and nestled below the clock peaks of the Langeberg range, Rooiberg was established in 1964 and it now has 34 members contributing from individually owned farms around the cellar. The vineyards are planted in four different regions which are rich in lime and it is their specific micro-climates that influence the flavour of the wines. The wines are highly rated in South Africa, not least in the John Platter Guide and enjoy a very strong trade in Cellar-Door sales. They are simple, yet well-made individual wines and they have seen great success in both the on and off trades since joining our portfolio. The winery can offer a greater selection of wines than that which we list in the UK and wines can be purchased ex-cellars, so please do not hesitate to contact us if this is of interest. A recent update of the label design and the move to varietal labelling across most of the range has introduced the wines to new customers. The Classic White, Sauvignon Chenin blend continues to be one of the best South African House wines available. 2-5 CASES DPD

South America We've been working with Vina Tamaya since 2010 and have been delighted with the ongoing reaction to their excellent wines. Helped by the market's increased interest in the regionality of Chile, we have seen growth not only in the number of cases sold but also, and perhaps more satisfyingly, in the number of customers who want to buy these wines. As with all relatively young wineries, the range continues to change slightly as it settles down, but the wines themselves remain superb examples of what Chile can offer when you step away from the 'big brands'. Likewise the wines of Casa Montes, from the lesser known region of San Juan, are great examples of what you can find in Argentina if you step away from Mendoza. Their Intenso Malbec is a fantastic example of this famous grape variety and worth a try if you're looking to refresh the South American section of your list - comparative Malbec tasting anyone?

Chile VINA TAMAYA, LIMARI VALLEY The name “Tamaya” comes from the Diaguita Indians, who inhabited the region of the Limarí Valley between the 8th-15th centuries. “Tamaya” means “high lookout point” and corresponds to the name of the principal hill in the area, which is situated within the property of Viña Tamaya. The Estate is located in the Limarí Valley, which is 400 km north of Santiago, and is currently planted with 163 hectares of vines, although the whole farm covers an area of 3,000 hectares. The farm produces citrus fruits and avocados and there is a permanent staff of over 500 people. This means they do not need any extra help at harvest time, so have no contract workers. Planting of the vines started in 1997, and the construction of the winery (with a capacity of 1,470,000 litres) began in 2001. The winemaker is José Pablo Martin, one of the most exciting young winemakers in Chile, who has worked with top Chilean and French producers. 2-5 CASES DPD

Argentina CASA MONTES, SAN JUAN Casa Montes is located 700 metres above sea level in the Tulum Valley in San Juan, the second largest wine producing area in Argentina. San Juan is a vast province located in the West of Argentina, bordering other well-known wine producing regions such as La Rioja and Mendoza, and Chile to the west. The climate is very hot and dry but with cool nights in the summer which optimises the maturity levels of the grapes. The winery was established in 1992 with the aim of becoming a boutique cellar producing top quality, good value wines. It is owned and managed by the Montes Family, a well-known and respected family who own San Juan’s foremost radio station and newspaper. Casa Montes Winery and Vineyards has 156 hectares of espalier vineyards (Smart-Dyson VSP system) and the team work with 11 different grape varieties, including Malbec and Syrah – the grape of the San Juan Province. All wines are produced from Estate grown fruit. The winemaker is Pedro Pelegrina, and the renowned Angel Mendoza works as an external consultant to the winery. More than $10 Million USD has been invested in this family owned business to create a winery at the forefront of technology. Melt water from the Andes is collected in a 33 million litre reservoir and provides ideal irrigation, producing the healthiest grapes, picked at the moment of optimum maturity. 2-5 CASES DPD

Spirits etc Our Spirits selection has evolved over the years and offers our customers fantastic ranges of cognac, rum, and calvados. We firmly believe our spirits offering sets us apart from other suppliers and if this is an area you are yet to explore – what are you waiting for? We can offer mixed cases to allow you to pick and choose from each producer and offer your customers a varied range. Cognac Frapin needs no introduction, located in the very centre of the Grande Champagne region of Cognac, the Domaine produces some of the very best quality cognacs available to buy today. This year sees the addition of two 20 year old vintage cognacs from 1989 and 1991 to our list. Definitely worth a try! Just as unique is our range of Rums from Bristol Classic Rums, each one selected and bottled by ‘Rum Guru’ John Barrett himself. If you’re yet to dive into the Rum world then don’t wait any longer, we promise you’ll be converted. Calvados, Blanche de Normandie, Armagnac and the stunning Snow Queen Vodka make up our spirits selection, and if you’re wondering why this section is called ‘Spirits Etc’, well this is where we list our Vermouths, Pommeau, Poiré and the amazing Cidre de Normandie - you’ll be like a kid in a sweet shop!

Cognac COGNAC FRAPIN The beautiful estate of Cognac Frapin is located in the Grande Champagne which is in the very heart of the Cognac region. It is the largest single estate in an area renowned for producing the very best cognacs; rich, intense and flavoursome with fantastic ageing potential. Frapin’s house style echoes perfectly these characteristics. Frapin is owned and managed by the Cointreau family, who also own Champagne Gosset. The family can trace their involvement in the wine and spirits business back as far as 1270. They established themselves in the Cognac region initially as a family of wine-growers before becoming distillers and have continued in this tradition for 20 generations, based in the stunning Chateau de Fontpinot. Frapin’s wonderfully aromatic blends are developed by winemaker and master distiller Patrice Piveteau. Infinite pains are taken at every stage of the production process to ensure the resulting cognac is worthy of the Frapin name. Each spirit is matured in the cellar best suited to attain its own individual optimum condition (Frapin have ground-level ‘damp’ cellars and attic level ‘dry’ cellars) and each cognac is matured for many years longer than is legally required. This level of flexibility and control is achieved in part due to the 100% ownership of all the vineyards and the comparatively small scale of the production that allows the family to hold generous stocks of mature spirits. 2-5 CASES DPD

Rum BRISTOL CLASSIC RUM The mission of John Barrett and Bristol Classic Rum is to seek out rare and exceptional rums from individual estates in the Caribbean, South America and Mauritius. These rums are offered in extremely limited quantities, sometimes only a single barrel from a single still, after spending many years of careful maturation in damp, dark cellars on the British mainland. The rums are bottled straight from the cask at their optimum strength without chilling and with only light filtration; this preserves the subtleties of bouquet and taste. These unique rums are an excellent addition to any spirits list and offer a real point of difference. While all the rums can be enjoyed with a mixer, the top end bottlings are best enjoyed alone as one would enjoy a malt whisky, a good cognac or an aged calvados. As each bottling is limited, our offering changes throughout the year so please do not hesitate to contact us if you need further clarification on the range we are currently listing. 2-5 CASES DPD

Calvados CALVADOS CHRISTIAN DROUIN The ‘Coeur de Lion’ estate is located in the heart of the Auge region (Pays d’Auge). Christian Drouin senior established the first distillery at Gonneville-sur-Honfleur. However due to the success of the brand, more space was required, so Christian Drouin junior transferred the facilities to a former stud farm at Coudray-Rabut. The “Coeur de Lion” orchard, which was planted and grafted between 1991 and 1993, is a traditional orchard of ‘tall standards” and this, along with the orchards of the “Fiefs Saint-Anne” estate produces the apples used to make Calvados Christian Drouin. The Drouin family has a passion for Calvados and their goal is to produce an exceptional product using traditional methods. By limiting the extraction of liquid during the pressing of the pomace they ensure only the very best juice is the base for their award winning spirits. Maturation takes place in small second hand casks which have previously housed Port, Sherry, Banyuls or Cognac adding an extra complexity to the finished product. The result is a fabulous collection of Calvados, from the Sélection through to the wonderful older vintages. An extensive range of Vintage Calvados is available in addition to those listed below. Pommeau POMMEAU, CIDER AND EAU DE VIE DE CIDRE www.calvados-drouin.com The ‘Blanche de Normandie’ is an apple brandy made from the distillation of cider obtained from the very best varieties of apples and pears grown in the Coeur de Lion orchards. It has no oak ageing so is crystal clear and can be served neat, on the rocks, as a base for cocktails or as a refreshing after-dinner drink. Pommeau is a lovely sweet pure-apple aperitif or pudding wine and worth a try if you’ve never tasted it before. Recent years have seen increased interest in both the Cidre and Poiré from Christian Drouin. The delicious cider comes in traditional ‘champagne’ bottles and is a completely different drink to the mass produced ciders which are currently so popular today. The Poiré, a traditional blend of several pear varieties found in Normandy, makes an unique addition to any list. 2-5 CASES DPD

DOLIN www.dolin.fr Dolin was perhaps the first and is now amongst the few remaining independent producers of Vermouth and the last producing Vermouth de Chambéry. They continue to make the authentic product according to the principles which earned Chambéry France’s only A.O. for Vermouth in 1932. This means production in Chambéry itself, maceration of real plants rather than pre-prepared infusions, and the unique addition of sugar as opposed to other sweetening products. The finished Dolin Vermouth contains 75-80% wine, much more than other brands, and is light and dry. The particular mixture of plants found near Chambéry gives a fresh, restrained and elegant nose with a subtle, complex bittersweet palate. Vermouth de Chambéry Dry
