ARCHITECTURE - EDUCATIONAL

USC Global Architecture Brigades took part in a design competition for a primary school in the small community of Santa Rosa in Honduras. We went to Honduras in January 2011 to start construction on the chosen design. It was extremely valuable hands on construction experience that cannot be taught in school. As a student, being a part of a project that actually gets built and helps a community is a rare opportunity.

RESEARCH & FABRICATION

This project was done as a part of Undergraduate Architecture Student Council which works on a design for PARK(ing) Day every year. PARK(ing) day is a national event where architects and designers take over a parking spot as a way to make a statement about cars. This year we built a canopy made with donated cardboard tubes which were attached by nothing but binder clips. The idea behind the project was to rethink the idea of public gathering space in Los Angeles. Because of the heat in early September, we decided to make a canope installation that would allow visitors to gather in the shade.
