The Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit performing arts group based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. TSO consists of 43 professional musicians currently under the direction of worldrenowned guest conductor and music director, Shinik Hahm. The symphony is in its twentyninth performance season.
Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra strives to enhance the cultural reputation and quality of life in the community through its annual season of concerts.
Annually, TSO performs five concerts in its subscription season. The regular season includes a holiday pops concert and a modern pops concert. The season also includes the Family Discovery Series, which is the perfect way to introduce audience members of all ages to the joy of symphony orchestra music. In October 2008, TSO debuted its new Stained Glass Chamber Series. By featuring individual orchestra members, the Stained Glass Series allows the audience to hear the unique sounds of each instrument.
The Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra is proud to have Shinik Hahm as guest conductor and music director. Maestro Hahm is an internationally renowned musician who has conducted groups from around the globe including the orchestras of Atlanta, Los Angeles, St. Petersburg, Geneva, Prague and New York. Hahm has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the Fourth Gregor Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors, the Walter Hagen Conducting Award and the Shepherd Society Award from Rice University.
The Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra has an annual budget of approximately $300,000. Of that, 55 percent comes from individual donations.
