One of the first rules for caring for a bearded dragon is choosing the proper housing for this creature. You should expect that this will last your young dragon for a few months but you also need to keep in mind that they do grow very quickly. Once the beardy grows to be an adult, then they will need a tank that is no smaller tank. However, on e of the best sizes to use is a 55 gallon because this gives your exotic pet more room to run around in. You will also need to purchase a screen lid.

This lid should not contain glass, Plexiglas or even wood because this will prevent air circulation in addition to having added humidity. By choosing a screen, you can rest assure that your lighting and heating sources are working to the best of their abilities. One of the next very important things on the care sheet is the lighting. Your dragon will need full spectrum lighting for a minimum of 12 to 14 hours each day. One of the best types of bulbs to use is Reptisun 5.0 or 8.0. Naturally there are other bulbs and brands available. You are going to want to choose lighting that will stretch out over the length of the tank. Your pet should be able to come within 6 to 8 inches of the light source. Also, keep in mind that the light should not be directed through glass because this will deflect the UV rays.

In addition to lighting it is also important to monitor the temperature of your dragon’s tank.
