Welcome to the 6th Annual TRI-N Charolais Farms bull sale! Hard to believe its that time of year again!

2021 marks our 36th Anniversary in the purebred Charolais business.

Wow does time fly when you are having fun! After consigning bulls to various test stations (Douglas, Roblin, Yellowhead), to selling bulls at the Westman Charolais Sale, Cattleman’s Classic (For 15 years), to hosting our own sale at the Virden Auction mart to now on farm we have seen some changes!

The venue of how we sell our bulls may have changed throughout the years but we have always used these core values in breeding cattle close to 4 decades. They are:

1.

Calving ease: As our herd continues to grow and farm help is hard to find calving ease is a must. Any bulls or heifers born over 110 aren’t kept. When selecting herd bulls a small head and smooth shoulder is a must! All the bulls selling in our sale can be used on second calvers.

2.

Calf vigor: Calves must get up and suck without help. Dead calves don’t grow or make you money. If we have to help a calf suck they get the band.

3.

Accelerated growth from birth to weaning: Moderate BW with the goods to wean them heavy weight calves in the fall. Compare our 205 DW on these bulls to many in the industry!

4.

Breeding libido: The ability to breed your cows as a yearling quickly and effectively. All bulls are guaranteed to get your cows bred during your breeding season.

5.

Structural Soundness/Easy Doing: Bulls/cows must be able to travel large pastures and last. They must be easy doing. Let the cow work for you, not you for the cow!

6.

Maternal strength: From the beginning we believed in breeding for better and better females and the bulls will come!

7.

Consistency: A bull to be used in our purebred herd must throw a consistent calf crop regardless to the type of cows he’s been bred to. When you sell your calves, consistency is key. For that reason, we don’t use a pile of different sires but we use each sire hard. This gives you, the buyer, the chance to select through a very consistent set of bulls with many being ¾ brothers.

8.

Success in our commercial herd: Many of our purebred herdsires started their careers in our commercial herd. This to us is a no-nonsense way to access the above 6 points in a non nonsense environment. Even the 2012 Agribition Champion Bull had to breed commercial cows.

The bulls will be located just outside our heated sale barn. They will not physically be entering a sales ring but will be selling by a TV video. Please come early to select your bull and enjoy some Ukrainian hospitality starting at noon (Covid protocols will apply).

We are very excited to have Brennin Jack (Jack Auction Group) and staff again this year. Brennin makes his living from the cattle industry. He works as a calf order buyer as well as an auctioneer. Talk to Brennin he buys thousands of char x calves every year.. he might just have a order for yours!

We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the years. We have met so many great people far and wide that we are proud to call our friends. Even if you don’t need a bull this year come on down - the beef business is our business and everyone is included!

From the Desk of Jack Auction Group A lot of cows have left the country...

As we look forward to 2021 and the upcoming calf season, we are already starting to see that the number of cows that have been shipped in the last decade is dramatically effecting the prices of feeder cattle in a positive way. We are in the middle of a pandemic, with all time high grain prices, and the feeder market is still as strong as ever. If we had grain prices back to what they were in past years, we would literally be selling 600 pound steers for awfully close to $3.00 a pound, and that would be a nice profit margin for the farmers and ranchers doing all the work. Now I’m not saying we aren’t in for a few bumps along the way but, I think we can all agree that we are coming out of this pandemic, and everyone seems confident that by fall things will be getting back to a more normal state.

I strongly feel the cattle market is going to really be a shining star in the years to come, and now is the time to upgrade your bull power to make an impact on your calves. Charolais cattle have always set the pace in the sale ring; I literally see over a quarter million cattle a year go past me first-hand as an order buyer, and I can tell you the big framed calves are where the best prices are achieved. Regardless of what colour your cows are, a Charolais bull will put more frame and pounds on your calves, which will make them more desirable by all the order buyers, which in turn, puts more money in your pocket.

Tri-N has been in business for a longtime and know how to make bulls that work for the cattlemen that buy them. You can’t sell bulls for over 30 years without raising a product that people want, and the Nykoliation’s do just that, Sell Good Bulls!

DNA Testing We decided to test a select few for homozygous polled, homo red and for the diluter gene.

Results are in the catalog. Bulls that are listed as “homozygous red non-diluters” are bulls that will only throw red or black on black cows (no greys). Other bulls in this sale may or may not carry these genes as they were not tested.

Video Sale Videos will be available online at www.trincharolais.com. This is a video sale so be sure to come early and go through the bulls thoroughly in the pens as they will not be coming through the sale ring.

Delivery If you are able to bring your trailer sale day, we will deduct $50 from the purchase price of your bull. We can deliver your bull for $100 for up to 200 kms. Anything over 200 kms, delivery will be at cost. We will work with you for further destinations.

American Purchases Business as usual for trade. As agriculture is an essential service, we can still cross the border with the bulls or you can still attend our sale. There have been no changes to the export of cattle as a result. We will do all necessary health tests required for export. Bulls will be delivered to the nearest point of entry at the seller’s convenience.

American Buyers will be charged an additional $250/bull for the 1st bull and $200/bull for each consecutive bull to cover health testing costs and delivery to the border.

Exchange rates will be announced sale day at current bank rates. All bulls are guaranteed exportable to the USA. Insurance Insurance will be available sale day from Keystone Livestock Services, Lois McRae - 204-573-5192.

In the winter of 2019, I remember getting a text from our good friends Darren and John Cook, Triple C Charolais of Steep Rock, MB. They told me they have a great bull this year and he was the best bull they have raised in the past 50 years. His dam is one of their best cows and this bull is an absolute powerhouse. He had a full brother that was used in their herd and threw a very consistent set of calves.

After seeing his sale picture, we were blown away. When we saw him in person he was even better! Dad and I brought our good friends Jack, Tyler and Jared with us to the sale to critique the bull as we really value their eye for cattle. “Powerful, big barrelled, smooth made, free moving... and look at that muzzle on that bull!” All comments not made by us but by these astute cattlemen that day.

We have to agree with everyone on this one. SCX Jehu 233E is by far the stoutest, biggest barrelled, massive white bull we have used on our ranch the last 36 years. He has calved so well and has thrown so much performance.

Even better he has proven himself in not only our herd but for the Cooks as well. Every Jehu bull calf born on the ranch in 2020 (besides one that froze its ears and one that got hurt after weaning) made the bull pen this year.

SCX Jehu 233E is a ¾ brother to SCX Triumph 50B that is currently being used by Lindskov Thiel Ranch, SD USA. Jehu is outcross to most popular pedigrees today including Firewater, Ledger, Outsider etc.

As we see this bull age, we love him more and more. Jehu will have a lasting impact on our herd for the years to come. We are excited to offer his progeny to you!

His dam is Jesse's best cow he owns with a perfect udder where she weaned 67% of her weight.

2 Generations of Gold Star Dams of Distinctions (52Y and 1M) and 72B is well on her way!

Note his 79 lb BW and 1523 lb YW. I remember the day he was born. I ran the cow up the chute to see if there was a second... nope!! Calving ease plus unmatched performance that is very hard to find!

From the moment Red Baron was a baby calf we knew he was going to be great! From an early age we were amazed by the depth of body, hair and eye appeal Red Baron had.

Genotypically Red Baron possesses some of the strongest genetics in our herd. His sire Captain Morgan 340A needs no introduction being the cornerstone of our herd for many years. His dam (917W) is one of the most beautiful cows on the ranch. She is a Gold Star Dam of Distinction and has been flushed.

917W dam (23R) is also a Gold Star Dam and most notably produced TRI-N Frank the Tank 75Y that did very well for HB Cattle, Mount Pleasant Utah that you still see a lot of today.

Red Baron is over 3 decades in the making. His BW’s are very moderate and as you can see by his sons they grow. Embryos were implanted that are full sibs to Red Baron on Commercial simm angus x heifers and they are calving well. A true sleep easy red calving bull!

We have used Red Baron very successfully on heifers and wouldn’t be afraid to use the majority of his sons on heifers either. His first heifers are calving now and they are excellent females. Come take a look... you will be impressed!!

Terms & Conditions

Terms All on-site buyers are required to pay by Cheque, Cash, Debit, or by Visa or MasterCard (3% convenience fee on all credit cards) the day of the sale. Internet Buyers and US Buyers will have two (2) business days to wire Canadian Funds to Jack Auction Group for all purchases.

All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made.

Bidding Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Disputes Bidding will be re-opened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.

Announcements Announcements made from the block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalog. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements.

Purchaser’s Risk Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured.

Certificate of Registration Each animal will carry papers issued by their association unless otherwise stated in the catalog. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.

Delivery Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk.

Breeder Guarantee Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and priviledge of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

Exception Guarantee In the case where the animal is subject to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at the sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price.

American Purchases The sellers will do all health testing for export. Bulls will be delivered to the nearest point of entry at the seller’s convenience. All American purchses will be charged additional fees for health testing and delivery as described on page 3. Exhcange rates will be announced sale day at current bank rates. All bulls guaranteed exportable to the USA. If you are an American citizen, you do not need a passport to enter Canada. However, you should carry proof of your citizenship (birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization as well as photo identification). Accidents Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of the buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

Sale Manager Jack Auction Group is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warranties or representations, expressed or implied. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations.

Pictures By attending the sale you are granting permission for your picture to be used for promotional and advertising purposes relating to the sale.

Semen The consignors reserve the right to in-herd semen use on any bull sold in the sale, with semen drawn at the consignor’s expense and the buyer’s convenience.
