License Requirements

OUPV/Six-Pack Captain’s License The Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (Six-Pack/Charter Boat Captain) is the most popular of the Captain’s Licenses and is used for fishing and sailing charters, dive boat operations, sightseeing tours, etc. This license entitles the holder to carry up to six passengers “for hire” on power or sailing vessels up to 100-tons and can be issued for the Great Lakes. License Requirements Be at least 18 years old Have a minimum of 360 underway boating experience since the age of 15, ninety of those days being done in the last three years Pass a physical, drug test and eye exam Hold a valid CPR/First Aid card issued within 6 months of your license application Obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) Successful completion of the Mariners Learning System™ course

Master 25/50/100 Ton License The Master’s license is required to carry seven or more passengers on an inspected passenger vessel. In order to carry seven or more passengers “under sail,” a sailing endorsement is also required. The tonnage level of a Master’s license issued will be based on the size vessels on which you have your boating experience on. This license can be issued for the Great Lakes, U.S. Inland waters or U.S. Near Coastal waters depending on where you gained your experience and time spent underway. License Requirements Be at least 19 years old (US Citizenship is required) Have a minimum of 360 underway boating experience since the age of 15, ninety of those days being done in the last three years Pass a physical, drug test and eye exam Hold a valid CPR/First Aid card issued within 6 months of your license application Obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) Successful completion of the Mariners Learning System™ course
