Importance of Drug and alcohol rehab centers The drug and alcohol abuse is quite rampant in the United States. This is reflected in the recent survey carried on by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which stated that the combined alcohol and/or drug abuse among people aged 12 or older is over 22.5 million and only 3.8 million of them has received treatment for substance abuse and addiction. This shows the need for the establishment of more drug and alcohol rehab centers. More and more people are dying due to drug abuse and that exceeds those who die due to car accidents. Most of the drug and alcohol rehab centers are running long term drug rehab for teens and alcohol rehab treatment for young adults. The programs are specifically designed for individuals aged 17 to 28. Some of the drug and alcohol rehab centers are providing certain activities for young adults to come out of their addiction from drugs and alcohol. These activities or facilities include, providing for1. Yoga classes, 2. Art classes, 3. Camping, 4. Shopping activities, 5. Weightlifting, Life-Skills education, Recovery conferences, Karate classes, Sporting events etc. The main purpose of drug addiction rehabilitation is to break the cycle of addiction so that the addict can function normally in his/her daily life. The additional risks that are associated with the rehabilitation process are addressed as part of rehabilitation process. These may relate to the psychological, financial, legal and social elements that had contributed towards the destruction of an addict’s life. The first step that is undertaking in any type of drug rehabilitation program is detoxification that involves employing anti-addictive drugs. These anti-drugs either replace or reduce the effects of the drug abuse. They also enable the addict to wean away from the habit of taking that drug or short-circuit the carvings or reduce the unpleasant effects when combined with antidote drugs. The other programs at these drug and alcohol rehab centers include creating restrictive environment that eliminates the access to the drug and providing psychological and emotional support during the detoxification process. Emotional support in a true sense may involve allowing the drug addict to meet with his/her family members, acquaintances. The main purpose of drug rehab is to find various methods towards ensuring that the drug addict lives a normal life as he or she used to be before becoming addicted to the drug or alcohol.
