Calculating the benefits In the school year 2008/09, Sustrans conducted hands-up surveys of pupils at schools where Bike It was being introduced for the first time. In total, Sustrans surveyed around 20,000 pupils at 114 Primary and nine Secondary schools in England (excluding schools surveyed in London and in Wales). Before the project began, Sustrans asked the pupils how often they cycled, walked or were driven to school and how they would prefer to travel to school. Sustrans then asked the same questions after Bike It had been delivered. Regular bike shed counts were also conducted throughout the academic year.
