PROGRAM AND PERFORMANCE NOTE A “gnomology” is a collection of quotations. In this work, the five featured quotations were selected because they suggested a musical interpretation. The movements can be excerpted or arranged in any order. This work was composed in June 2010 while in residence at Copland House, Cortlandt Manor, NY, as a recipient of the Aaron Copland Award, and was commissioned and premiered by the Maharlika Trio.
