New wine flights with food pairings

The Grand Opening of Napatini Bistro & Wine Bar was January 2023, and proprietors Lynn & Gary McLean have been excited to meet so many wine lovers who have come in to experience the Napa, Sonoma and Central Coast Wines. The response from visitors has been amazing! Napatini’s approach is to provide an exceptionally unique wine tasting experience by allowing customers to taste 48 different wine varietals from their “wine wall”, or to taste the Featured Wines with the expertly paired fine cuisine while in style and comfort.

Napatini recently opened their outdoor dining space to allow customers to enjoy the beautiful Carlsbad weather, warm themselves at either of the two fire pit tables, or to stay cool under oversized, lighted umbrellas. They have recently added Live Music to the delight of customers while creating a fun and upbeat atmosphere.

Napatini offers lite fare that pairs nicely with wines: cheese & charcuterie boards, flatbreads, salads, and entrees. Customers can explore both familiar wines as well as unique, exclusive wines where they pour themselves a taste, half-glass, or full glass from the wine dispensers. Tasting notes for each bottle can be found via QR code and on the Napatini website.

Napatini features a different winery each month, where the wines are offered in a winery room environment. The wines from the monthly Featured Winery are poured for patrons in either a Tasting Room Experience, Red & White Flights, and Flights with Food Pairings.

Globalization has allowed us to source grains, fruits, yeast, and other raw ma terials from around the world. This is great for consumer options, but terrible in the quest towards anything remotely close to ‘sustainability’. The reopening as Bistro 7 offers an even more exten sive menu. Four generations of strawberry growers

Carlsbad Strawberry Company has been growing strawberries for 4 generations and the experience shows. We have been in Carlsbad since 1952, growing with the city around us and seeing interstate 5 come into being. Since we have started in 1952 our business has grown and adapted drastically to remain sustainable.

Run by the Ukegawa family, we first started growing hundreds of acres of tomatoes commercially in Carlsbad. Ever since prices and labor cost have increased in the U.S. the Ukegawa family had to adapt and create new business ideas to remain in business.

This is how Carlsbad Strawberry Company started growing strawberries and later creating the famous U-pick strawberry season.

Carlsbad Strawberry Company and the Ukegawa family are the last remaining farmers to continue in the agriculture business off the southern California coast from Oxnard to Mexico.

By continuing to create new ideas for customers to get a hands-on experience with agriculture, the Carlsbad Strawberry Company continues to fight to stay in business. Since the U-pick’s introduction in 1999, during the spring and summer months we have introduced a sunflower maze, tractor rides, and other farm-friendly attractions to appeal to the agritourism business.

New Village Arts (NVA), North County’s cultural hub, is ending their twenty-first season, and their first season in the new Dea Hurston New Village Arts Center in Carlsbad, with one of the most beloved and popular movie musicals of all time, SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN.

Directed by AJ Knox, previews are May 12 to 19 with performances May 20 to July 2 at the Conrad Prebys Theatre in Carlsbad.

“I am thrilled to be returning to New Village Arts to direct SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN,” said director AJ Knox, who previously directed LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, MURDER FOR TWO, and AVENUE Q for NVA. “We had originally planned for this show back in 2020, and after three long years, it’s finally here.”

Faithfully and lovingly adapted by Broadway legends Betty Comden and Adolph Green from their original award-winning screenplay, each unforgettable scene, song, and dance from the movie is accounted for, including the show stopping title number. Fans of the movie and the musical can expect a new twist on this musical and dance classic in this ensemble production as conceived by Knox and the team at New Village Arts. “SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN is one of my alltime favorite films. I see it as a love letter to movies and theatre, and I cannot wait to share our unique approach to this production,” said Knox.

The cast includes Anthony Vacio as Don Lockwood, Emma Nossal as Kathy Selden, and Xavier Bush as Cosmo Brown.

Barrio Glassworks is the realization of a family dream. In 2012, the Raskin/Devlin family landed on the famous glassblowing island of Murano, Italy for a vacation. Like so many others, Drew, Mary and Gary were transfixed watching master glassblowers at work, not realizing where fortune was about to lead them. Drew Raskin, an emerging multi-faceted artist, fell in love with the form and it was not long before his parents did too.

The family spent time with glassblowers in Seattle’s glass community and were taken with the intricacy and collaborative spirit of the craft. The community of artists the family met and worked with demonstrated that a glass studio is not only a breeding ground for beautiful works of art, but also for cooperation and team effort.
