Mercer University New Student Programs | First-Year Families Newsletter | Early June 2013 Edition Summer Orientation Tips and Tidbits In a few weeks, you and your student will be visiting campus for summer orientation. Here are a few things helpful “tips and tidbits” to consider as you prepare for your travels:

Driving Directions to Orientation

For directions to campus, visit our Directions to Orientation webpage. Once on Stadium Drive traveling toward the University Center, look for orientation signage and Peer Advisors to direct you to orientation parking locations.

Peer Advisors (PAs)

A PA is a sophomore, junior, or senior student who assists incoming students with their transition to Mercer. In addition to volunteering with our orientation programs, a PA also partners with a Mercer faculty or staff member to co-facilitate a first-year UNV 101 or BUS 103 course. PAs play a visible role during our orientation programs, easily recognizable by their orange polos!

Mercer University New Student Programs | First-Year Families Newsletter | Early June 2013 Edition The Cruz Plaza

Throughout the spring semester, Mercer has been working on an exciting new project for our students to enjoy in August 2013: The Cruz Plaza. Cruz Plaza will be a major new campus feature that will transform the area between Jesse Mercer Plaza and the University Center, creating in essence a new central “Quad.” The Plaza will include new walkways, additional gathering areas, prominent water features, and significant landscaping improvements. The ongoing construction will necessitate the re-routing of pedestrian traffic around the site during summer orientations. For a map of campus that denotes construction areas, click here.

IMPORTANT FORMS

Immunization Form

Immunization Forms were mailed to new students with their enrollment packet on March 15, 2013. This document (found here) requires students to provide their immunization histories for measles, mumps, and rubella, along with the signature of health care provider. It must be completely filled out and received by the Student Health Center before beginning classes at Mercer.

Student Health Insurance Waiver

Mercer requires all students to carry health insurance. As such, Mercer offers an affordable health care plan students may purchase each semester. Information about the plan, as well as how to waive the fee if you already carry insurance, can be found here.
