Goals

- Create and support an architecture that meets its purpose and avoids the economical trend ruling our society. It has to point again at the dweller, at the user, his real objective. - Design based on the universal accessiblity and aiming at socializing urban meeting spaces, urban resting spaces as well as hybrid spaces which combine multiple usages. - Conceptualise based on pedestrian prominence rather than on the vehicle prominence existing nowadays in our towns, converting so pedestrians and cyclists in the target, creating people awareness and improving pedestrians safety. - Introduce nature in the urban environment, enabling its permanent presence, recovering the city-nature relationship to emphasize the benefits that nature provides. This nature introduction will be structural, not based on attachments or patches in residual spaces: nature leading role will allow our interaction. - Seek for natural light as an architectonic and nature element. - Aim at a sustainable architecture and look for self-sufficient energy constructions as the foundation of the projects.

Professional work: Competition: Alginet covered Sport Hall

- This project consisted in the design of two sport buildings for the Alginet city Sport Center. - The new buildings together with the existing hall create a volume set: the first one is erected in the same direction that the latter, and the second one in the same direction of the street, as if they turn around a point. The resulting opening is used to locate the main entrance to both new halls, as a hub to welcome visitors. - Dressing-rooms are located at the bottom of the buildings, creating a platform. This elevation is used as the stage box over the related sport grounds. - Both new buildings are connected by corridors with the existing building, in order to create a functional unit and a fluid relationship. - Materials include prefabricated slotted concrete panels to enable controlled daylight entrance in the upper part, prefabricated solid concrete panels at ground level behind stands, dressing-rooms and other rooms, and adjacent to the courts, continuous glazed closures to allow the interior view.

Professional work: Collective housing

- Here-below a selection of public and private promotion collective houses is shown; works where I participated with an architecture office during my professional practice. - The interior layout was subject to the building promotors requirements, it limits the creative freedom. - Only the faรงade allowed some input of the architect office creativity, within a simple and modern style, due to budgetary restrictions.

Professional work: Single-family houses

- Here-below a selection of self-promoted detached houses projects is shown, to reflect my participation with the same architect office. - These cases accepted a greater contribution of creativity, in faรงades and interior layout, allways within the boundaries imposed by customer need and plot and land typology. - Faรงades look for a modern style, with differentiated volumes or parts; whereas interior layout aim at united and continuous spaces, restrictiong corridors size and with direct outdoor access, subject to plot limitations.

Academic work: Architecture School at Velluters

(2007)

- Project for the construction of an architecture school in Velluters quarter, situated in Valencia old town. In addition to provide the school requirements, it also pursues the revitalisation of this depressed zone. This target is achieved by the fusion of the academic and the social functions in a common space, through the planning within the school building of a square, that after lecture timetable recovers its public usage. - A second square at the main entrance (under the auditorium cantilever) invites local residents and passers-by to get in the complex, the show-room and the inner space. This will enable a relationship of residents with the school, by means of visits to the students projects and other exhibitions. - Natural light permeability for the entire building is attained by the plot existing trees and the additional ones and the accessible roofs landscape included in the project. The aim is to create a link with nature in contrast with the building stone materials (white and grey concrete and glass), by the desing of social and relax zones, which might influence the urban and stressing mentality now imposed by our cities. - In the access intersection from the adjacent streets, the pre-existing olive tree of the plot is transplanted as a symbol of the survival of nature to construction and human impact. - The frequent building ground level passages, its many cantilevers and the extensive existence of transparent and translucent surfaces, attempt to reduce the effect of the great mass of the building.

Academic work: Topographic

(2004)

-The aim of this project is to combine the topography which should never have disappeared (coastline dunes) with a low density building program, enabling life and socialisation to take place in a natural environment, or in a similar entourage, close to the town. It will also provide the possibility to spread the knowledge of native vegetation and the importance of its protection particularly by the residents of this town planning in order to enjoy this privileged space. - This dune shape topographic element integrates a large green zone and the projected building complex, semi-buried in the dunes from which the promenade emerges. This topography will appear as a parenthesis within the town, different to the urban sensation, while ensuring a continuity between town and promenade. This element allows the possibility of an alternative walk among the dunes as well as the access to the main promenade building roofs where public scenic viewpoints or semi-public terraces provide leisure and catering opportunities. - The promenade follows the dunes wave shape till it reaches the beach. Two new elements are created: the first one in the south where the green zone is extended with a trees field, and the second one in the north which keeps part of the existing tipography and incorporates a large amount of trees, which will also be spread along the promenade and the topography. - Materials will include concrete and wooden slabs (obtained from old railway sleepers) which entwined create the ways among the dunes and the ones driving to the beach. The sea side promenade border will include a wooden log low wall. Buildings faรงades will be made of sand coloured concrete, which will minimise the environment impact together with its semi-buried structure.

Academic work: Sailing school

(2005)

- This project designs a building which prevents standing on the way of the Malvarrosa Promenade to the Patacona Promenade, by the partial conversion of its roofing in walks and scenic view points. Simultaneously two stair flights leading to the beach, invite passers-by to seat and look at the sea or have a talk. - The roofing and the pavement sourounding the building have a organic form, inspired by the sea and the waves shape. - Main materials used in the construction are wood and glass. The structure is made of timber and protection rails in metal, to highlight its connection with navigation, sailboats and the sea. - Natural light is the protagonist in all the inner spaces: specially in the covered pier (where the wave shape roofing slots iluminate dark zones), in the tutorial rooms and the exhibition hall, open to the sea in order to keep touch with its entourage.

Academic work: The Senses Park

(2006)

- This project is located over the scar caused by the old Valencia-Barcelona railway track in Benicassim. Its aim is the creation of a park, taking advantage of the priviledged situation of this artificial railway hill. - The project purpose is a park which estimulates all the visitor senses (in a broad meaning: the five senses, the body and the mind), through the usage of aromatic native plants for the sense of smell, stands and a stage for the sight and hearing, thermal baths for the touch and the body, a local library for the mind, etc. - The railway scar is converted into a walking and cycling route, with the inclusion of the two old bridges. Below this walk the buildings are erected semiburied in the hill, leaving transversal passages, in order to minimise the sight impact of this huge complex. - Main materials used in the project are the stone walss and concrete walk pavement which embrace the hill, leading to the different park levels and services. - The existing pine trees of the zone are increased with new planting in order to create a different ambience with this green mass in the interior hillside crossed by walks. - The road which runs along the hill on the back of the sea front, will be subject to several modifications in order to reduce traffic noise and pedestrian safety when crossing it to access the park. Said alterations will include speed control road humps, chicanes and vegetal hedges in the central strip.
