WESTERN PLAINS WELLNESS CENTER

Collaborative Project with Delaney Martin & Zachary Irene Fall 2024 Kimball, NE

The Western Plains Wellness Center is a facility that embodies the principles of community, health, and a harmonious connection with nature. Nestled within the serene landscape of Gotte Park in Kimball, Nebraska, this wellness center offers a unique opportunity for individuals to experience rejuvenation and growth in a natural setting. The architectural concept seamlessly integrates wellness facilities, recreational spaces, and communal gathering areas, all carefully crafted to support the three foundational pillars of physical, social, and mental well-being.

The building design takes full advantage of its surrounding environment, fostering a strong relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces. Expansive windows, natural materials, and carefully curated landscaping create an immersive experience that encourages visitors to connect with the natural beauty of the park. Inside, the wellness center features state-of-the-art fitness areas, tranquil spaces for yoga and meditation, and inviting rooms for community programs and workshops.

The recreational components, including walking trails, open lawns, and outdoor activity zones, serve as extensions of the facility, encouraging active lifestyles and fostering a sense of belonging. Additionally, the center provides versatile spaces for group gatherings, workshops, and events, aiming to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive community spirit.

GROUND FLOOR + SITE

The city of Kimball was in desperate need of a multi-purpose facility where the community can workout, socialize, and host events. The Western Plains Wellness Center is aimed to do just that, in an elevated manner. This facility also has spaces where children can go and learn while parents are off working out, allowing both the children and parents to grow. Throughout the facility there are also many observing spots, where people can watch over activities happening in other spaces.

THE DENVER EXPERIENCE

Collaborative Project with Lauren Christopher Spring 2024

Denver, CO

The Denver Experience investigates the concept of Live-Work Catalysts, which are becoming more prevalent in today’s society. These are spaces that seamlessly blend co-living and coworking by reimagining the physical and psychological boundaries of traditional working and living environments. The goal of this project is to promote connection, collaboration, and innovation while also prioritizing opportunities for reflection, relaxation, and restoration. Within this particular Live-Work Catalyst boundaries are envisioned as fluid, adaptable elements that balance community interaction with personal privacy.

SIXTH FLOOR PLAN

The target users for the Denver Experience are young entrepreneurs relocating to Denver, Colorado, seeking to build friendships, foster a sense of community, and launch their businesses. Our goal was to design a co-living/coworking space that facilitates networking, collaboration, and community building while immersing newcomers in Denver’s vibrant culture. The design emphasizes seamless transitions between public and private spaces, with indoor and outdoor connections offering city views and strategically placed programs to encourage engagement and integration.

RESTAURANT RESIDENCY

Collaborative Project with Ian Hogeland Spring 2023

Lincoln, NE

The Restaurant Residency is a collaborative project that merges culinary and residential experiences within a single-mixed use building. The design accommodates a rotating cohort of three chefs from around the world, providing a space where they can not only cook for guests but also live and learn together. The building fosters an environment of creative exchange and shared growth, blurring the boundaries between professional and personal spaces.

At the ground level, a separate entrance leads to the chefs’ private residential area, creating a sense of distinction and privacy. Visitors enter through the main entrance, greeted by an indoor garden that promotes a farm-to-table philosophy. A wooden ramp guides guests past the open kitchen, offering glimpses of the behind-the-scenes culinary process. The dining area provides views of the city, with both indoor seating and an outdoor terrace for an enhanced dining experience that seamlessly connects the urban and natural environments.
