Advice: The Art of

Hiring an Invitation Designer

Cexpress yourself. But it can seem overwhelming at first with hoosing custom invitations gives you the chance to fully

so many questions running through your head. What do I need to bring to the first consultation? What if I don’t know what I want? What design do I choose? What proper wording and addressing do I use? As it turns out, you don’t need to worry about any of these questions. Custom invitation designers are changing the way invitations are created. Now, hiring an invitation designer means you can enjoy the planning process stress free, and let the designer produce your one-of-kind work of art. Their are so many reasons why you would want to hire an invitation designer to create custom invitations. Invitation designers help you personalize all elements of your event, and help you incorporate cultural influences.

Personalization: Tying your style, colors, theme, and personality into all elements of your wedding or event can be challenging, but the advice and experience from a designer is priceless. Invitation designers can create custom monograms or motifs to use on everything from invitations to cocktail napkins. Invitation designers are more than printers, they are artists. A one-of-kind design is created just for you. Understanding who you are and what you want is important in helping the designer find the inspiration to design this piece of art for your event. Cultural Influences: Many weddings are blending two cultural backgrounds, with custom invitations you can bring unique cultural influences into the wedding stationery with the use of one-of-kind designs, colors, and motifs. If you are opting for a custom designed invitation piece, it’s always recommended to start shopping around much earlier than if you wanted something “off the rack”. Generally most of my clients come to me between 6 and 8 months before their event. Timing is different for every designer but I find that the whole process from beginning to completed piece usually takes between 3 or 4 months to complete. With that said, the more time you have the better! When looking for a custom designer, take your time and shop around. See if the designer usually sticks to one particular style or is very versatile with different styles, if they have anything in their portfolio that matches your style and if by ‘custom’ they mean more than just changing fonts and colors around. Last but not least, price is always important. A custom invitation set will cost more than something out of the stationery books but it should not be so expensive that it forces you to cut back dramatically on something else in your event. At the end of the day, planning a celebration is all about budget and priorities, and if stationery is one of your priorities, then go for the best! • 11 •

Where do ideas come from? It all starts with an inspiration board, color palate and items that convey and describe the guests experiences. Ideas come from the venue or they are gathered from the honorees favorite things. As you can see in the invitation suite below for this baby shower the ideas conceived from nature, texture and a soothing color palate.
