WASTE PRODUCTS FOUND IN STREET MARKET

S U E S

MALE’S SURF POINT MALDIVES After the 2-week long street market, plastics, wood, cardboard boxes and pipes are left at Malé’s water fronvt.

CHO XOM CHIEU MARKET HOH CHI MINH CITY There are tons of plastic and cardboards waste from the market and it’s pilling up at the corner of the street.

DIVISORIA STREET MARKET MANILA, PHILIPPINES Plastic bags and other trash are seen along the side of the road. Proper waste disposal bins are barely seen along the street.

From the 3 pictures shown above, it is very clear that a lot of street market did not manage their waste well. Scientists have shown that up to 12 million tonnes of plastic is entering the oceans every year and roughly 80% of litter in the seas comes from land. According to The World Count website, paper accounts for 25% of landfill waste and recycling 1 ton of paper saves around 682.5 gallons of oil, 26,500 liters of water and 17 trees.

REFLECTION In this Sem, I have further developed the practicality of my design. In previous semesters, my design are always too crazy and doesn't make sense. This time I tried a more practical design however it turns out too simple and too less exploration. I also realize that I need to expand my knowledge for materials as the materials I choose are too common. On the other hand, I learned a lot of new things in this sem. One of them is using the watercolour effect to do my renderings. I also learned how to make short animation with powerpoint~ Overall this sem is full of great experiences!
