This beautifully restored, great house, originally built by Matthew Chapman, an Irish/English planter, is more than 300 years old. The house is open for public viewing, and a tour through this great house is a virtual step back in time. Sunbury is home to the largest collection of antique horse-drawn carriages in the Caribbean as well as antique furniture, silver, glassware, china, beautifully landscaped grounds and century old machinery. Garrison Savannah, St. Michael The Barbados Museum and Historical Society is housed in the historic buildings of the former British Military Prison at St Ann’s. The prison, whose upper section was built in 1817 and lower section in 1853 is one of only twelve such prisons constructed anywhere in the British Empire and as such it is unique to the region.
