eighing in at 224 pounds and standing 5-foot-10-inches, senior linebacker Nick Reveiz is a Tennessee native and shines for the Vols. He went from underdog to star player within a few years at Tennessee. In 2006 he was redshirted, but made a name for himself in 2009. Last season he was UT’s first walk-on team captain since 1992. In 2007, 2008 and 2009 he was named Academic All-SEC. Reveiz finally snagged a scholarship in 2009 and the position of starting middle linebacker. He asserted in the UT-UF post-game conference that they went into the game
and played a full 60 minutes. “That [competing hard the entire game] was something we took personally as a defense,” Reveiz said. “I didn't feel like we competed all 60 minutes last week [against Oregon]. As a leader and a senior, that's disheartening. I really felt like this week we really went out there and put it all out on the line. Really, that's all you can ask but we have to be better." He leads the Vols with 54 tackles this season. His best game came against UAB and he elaborates on what UAB managed to do to inconvenience the Vols. "I just think it was a combination of not tackling and not getting lined up
right,” Reveiz confessed at a post-game conference. “Quite honestly, I felt like we came out flat. You can add up a lot of those things. We weren't really matching up routes well. They were doing a lot of crossing routes and we were having trouble with it. We were into some man-to-man and getting picked. The screens were just killing us. You can go on and on about how bad we played on defense but at the end of the day I'll give you this. We competed. All 11 guys on defense out there competed. I know the offense competed too. By God's mercy, we got a win." The Vols hope to repeat that spirit of competition as they host the Tide this week after a bye last weekend.
