Welcome to cardiff We’re looking forward to welcoming you to Cardiff. To help you get to know your fellow postgrad students and find out a little bit more about the city, we’ve put together a range of events for you to get involved in.

The events highlighted have been developed specifically for postgrads so make sure you come along to those!

Welcome to the first night of Freshers’ Week! We’ve got DJs playing the hottest hits and the best drinks deals around. This is your introduction to club nights at the Students’ Union.

Jake, your VP Postgraduate Students, will be giving a talk to welcome you to the Students’ Union and University, explain his priorities for this year and answer your questions about studying as a postgrad at Cardiff.

VK will be transforming Y Plas as part of the VK Electric Freshers’ tour and putting on one big colourful party. Doesn’t matter if you’re Black Cherry or Ice, just make sure you show your colours!

It’s Foam Party time! We’ll have some of the biggest foam cannons in the UK, thousands of freshers and the best DJ’s cardiff has got to offer.

A relaxed evening where you can meet other new postgraduate students from across the university and enjoy some snacks and activities.

sunday 23rd September Big Quiz / 19:00-00:00 Venue: Y Plas / £2 entry

Our two weekly quizzes in The Taf collide for one mega brain teaser. Test your general knowledge and movie smarts against hundreds of others. With a cash prize for top spot and various other great prizes up for grabs; get a team together and make sure you don’t miss out!

Introducing the brand new LGBTQ+ club night... PLWS! We’ve joined forces with the LGBTQ+ society to create an all-inclusive night where everybody is welcome! So bring your friends and allies to Y Stiwdio for chart hits, drinks deals and a free rainbow shot on entry! BTW… PLWS is the Welsh word for plus in case you were wondering!

The Athletic Union is the body that supports all sporting activity at Cardiff University Students’ Union. There are over 60 sports clubs including individual and team sports, outdoor and water sports and martial arts. It’s your chance to meet members of each sport and sign up.

Spend a day away from city life and visit one of South Wales’ most famous beaches.

Our guided bus tour offers the perfect introduction to Cardiff. Cruise by all the major Cardiff landmarks in this hour long bus tour to Cardiff Bay and back, all in spectacular vintage style.

Take a ride on our vintage bus down to IKEA where their student furnishing festival is happening. You’ll get an exclusive tour of all the best homewares at fantastic prices and even get a chance to bring back some goodies to help you make your new homeaway-from-home feel more like home.

Get to know postgraduates from across the university over a drink or meal in the Students’ Union pub. We’ll be to the right of the bar.

Freshers’ Ice Breaker Club Night / 22:00-03:00 Venue: Y Plas / tickets from £12.50

Get ready for one of the biggest national Freshers’ club nights to hit Cardiff. In a nutshell the Icebreaker is a massive party that everyone goes to at the start of Freshers’ Week to ‘break the ice’. That means things get fairly crazy. For 7 years, the team at Icebreaker have provided a right of passage between ordinary life and university for over 200,000 students... and now it’s your turn.

tuesday 25th September Societies and Volunteering Fair / 10:00-16:00 Venue: 1st floor / Free entry

The Guild of Societies and Cardiff Volunteering will be taking over our Freshers’ events on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th September, giving you the opportunity to find out more about our student groups. There will be different societies exhibiting each day so it’s well worth coming along to both fairs.

Cardiff Castle is one of Wales’ leading heritage attractions and a site of international significance.

Welsh Lesson / 15:00 Venue: Sir Donald Walters Boardroom, The Lounge / £1 entry

Wales has its own native language, which you’ll see displayed and hear spoken around the city. This is a great opportunity to learn some useful phrases when you arrive in Cardiff.

Comedy Central bring their extremely popular tour to Y Plas for a night of first class laughs. Prepare to have your ribs tickled by some of the finest names in comedy as we bring you the amazing Joel Dommett. Stay tuned for more announcements!

St. Fagan’s National Museum of History Trip / 10:30 Venue: Meet at Senghennydd Road entrance / £5 ticket

St. Fagan’s is one of Europe’s leading open–air museums and Wales’ most popular heritage attraction. Since 1948 over forty original buildings from different historical periods have been reerected in the 100-acre parkland, among them houses, a farm, a school, a chapel and a splendid Workmen’s Institute.

Join Give it a Go on this guided walk of the spectacular Rhossili Bay. Rhossili Bay has been voted within the top ten beaches of the world and this is your opportunity to explore the stunning Welsh coastline in all its beauty.

Join forces and take down your opponents in a UV, fog filled laser arena!
