 HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Guatapé was founded in 1811 by Francisco Giraldo Jimenez and it receives this name in memory to “Indian Chief Guatapé” who was the Indian inhabitant of this region. Guatapé has one of the best weather of Colombia and Antioquia, since is placed to 1.925 meter on sea’s level; also it has an estimated population of 8.028 and an area of 69 km^2; at beginning, the mining and agriculture were its principal economic activity, but years later its economic activities were changed with the creation of the “Dam” which brought the transformation the municipality and converted it in a touristic destination for visitors for everywhere of Colombia, even other countries of the world.

 MUSEUMS AND MONUMENTS I. LA CASA DEL ARRIERO It’s Guatapé’s traditional touristic place. It’s one of the eldest and traditional houses in the town. There you can admire the beauty of the friezes whose motives represent to Arrieros and mules

IGLESIA PARROQUIAL DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DEL CARMEN

It’s a beautiful building with baroque architectonic influence, it’s lined and structured inside the roofs by big bastions and beams which makes it unique in Antioquia; a big fountain of water located at the plaza contributed to the beauty of this place.

 PARKS AND ENTERTAINMENT I.

PEÑÓN DE GUATAPÉ.

The Rock of El Peñol or the Rock of Gautapé is a monolith of 220 m heigh and it’s located in Guatapé – (Antioquia). It was climbed at first time in 1954 by Luis Eduardo Villegas López an inhabitant of the zone. Nowadays you can reach the top walking up 659 steps which were built on the monolith. II.

ECOLOGICAL AND RECREATION PARK:

This park is located on the banks of the Peñol – Guatapé’s dam, Antioquia’s Department. It’s an ecological reservation surrounded by water, animals, vegetation and beautiful landscapes.

CABLE FLIGHT (CANOPY):

Guatapé’s cable flight is located to one block from Principal Park of the town. The 600 m of this canopy becomes it in the largest cable flight of Colombia. It makes a route on the dam, which is enjoyed by old and young people. IV.

FANTASY ISLAND:

Fantasy Island is located in Guatapé’s municipality, inside dam; hence its access must be made by boat.


 FEASTS AND TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS:  Kings’ festival January, 07 – 09  Nautical National Festival March, 18 – 20  International Meeting of Artists Working outside April, 23 – Holy Week  Feast of the Dam and Tourism June. 2) PASTO (NARIÑO).

 INFORMACIÓN. Pasto is the capital of Nariño’s Department. The city has been an administrative, cultural and religious center of the region from colonial age. It is also known as San Juan de Pasto in memoriam of its Patron San Juan Bautista.

SANTUARIO DE LAS LAJAS.

Impress with its medieval architecture and topography location among the crags of Andes Mountain. That’s reason, it’s considered as a God’s miracle on the pit.

 FEAST AND TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS Black and White Carnival was declared in 2002 as cultural heritage of the nation. It’s celebrated every year on January first week, attracting large numbers of tourists.

CASA PUEBLO It was built by Uruguayan artist Carlos Paez Vilaró, at beginning it was only a summer holyday and workshop house; nowadays, inside this there is a museum, an art gallery a coffee shop and a hotel

THE HAND El Paseo de las Americas is formed by some set of large sculptures as result of an international contest which took place in 1986.


 FEAST AND TRADITIONAL CELEBRATION: CINE FESTIVAL An important moment in the history of the beach was in 1951, when Argentinian businessman Mauricio Litman realized the first Punta del Este international festival which was celebrated in the Cantegril Country Club Cine.
