Who would be the audience for your media product?

Above is an image I found online of what I think my magazines audience would look like. The demographic of the audience is teenage girls between the ages of 13-18 years old belonging to a C1/C2 household (mid-market). Girls who belong to the demographic class E might also buy the magazine although they will be less likely to spend on the brands advertised in the magazine as they will not have much disposable income. When I had finished my audience research on psychographics I realised that the desired audience would mainly consist of mainstreamers as most teenage girls do fit into this category although aspirers will probably buy the magazine too as the magazine shows fashion products etc which they might want to buy and aspirers will want to buy the “flashy products advertised in the magazine to build up their own status such as the converse shoes the girl in the image has on her feet. My audience spends most of their disposable income on entertainment such as the cinema and on new books and songs as well as on the latest fashion trends to update their wardrobe as the audience are quite fashion conscious. In my audience research it revealed that my audience mostly prefers pop and R&B music but listens to the UK music charts on a regular basis. To make my magazine more appealing for this audience I included in the contents page a film, UK chart and reviews section. The audience would buy/subscribe to my magazine as it is marketed at a slightly cheaper price than other magazines which cater to the same or a similar audience. My magazine also is tailored to their most common interests (cinema and fashion) whilst still being a music magazine and covers a range of music genres – not just indie and rock (like Q and NME).

Due to the chosen audience of my magazine having a bigger purchasing power than most other audiences (because of them being mainstreamers and aspirers as well as the age group of the audience) the magazine would have a bigger revenue stream which would attract bigger publishing companies such as IPC Media and Bauer. For example, my audience would not only be interested in cosmetics and perfume but events, movies, fashion/high street stores, books, TV and film. All of these advertising opportunities would result in a sizeably bigger profit for the publishing company chosen and its distributer (in this case: IPC Media and their partner company Marketforce).
