The Baths

Vertical batholiths hiding caverns and saltwater pools, all accessible by guiding handrails and ropes, define this National Park as one of the standout geological phenomena of a naturally rich group of islands. The best approach is by snorkel or dinghy, as precious coral reefs just offshore require protection, and also provide excuses to linger a few extra seconds in the beautiful waters. An offshore dinghy dock is strategically placed to limit the number of boats on the shore. Virgin Gorda

Virgin Islands Maritime Museum

Around the world, coastal people developed boats that suited their needs, the local currents and wave types. So it was with the “Tortola boat,” a trading sloop that helped expand the cultural influences felt on the islands. The Virgin Islands Maritime Museum tells its story, and many more, on the second floor of the Centre for Applied Marine Studies, keeping alive the rich maritime heritage of the islands. Dolphin Discovery

Atlantic bottle-nosed dolphins make just about everybody smile, but when they take us into their world, they make us beam. Dolphin interactions at Dolphin Discovery start with handshakes, hugs and kisses, but continue with a foot push (two dolphins lift you by the soles of your feet and take you for a ride) and a dorsal tow. A dolphin tow can have you moving through the water at speeds you never imagined you’d reach without a jet ski. Prospect Reef Tortola, 998.193.3360 dolphindiscovery.com

J.R. O’Neal Botanic Gardens

The gardens were completely devastated by the hurricanes of September 2017, but the government announced just a few months later that National Parks across the region would be reinvigorated with $8.45 million, including the replanting of the gardens. Set in the heart of Road Town, the gardens represent the various habitats found on the islands, with collections of palm trees that line–and shade– the walkways, and flowering plants that attract the greenthroated Carib hummingbird.
