Young readers get their own Fine Free Week

The City of Cape Town has introduced Fine Free Week for children at the City’s libraries.

Children younger than 12 will be able to return overdue items without paying fines during the first week of June.

The City’s Library and Information Services will drive their first Fine Free Week for Children from Sunday 1 June 2019, which is also International Children’s Day, to 7 June 2019. Previous events indicated that the most overdue items were children’s books. At the moment 2 025 items are outstanding from the 69 147 card holders in the under 12 age group.

‘We want our youngest library patrons to become lifelong readers but this becomes more of a challenge when they don’t come to the library because of overdue books. Combine all the ingredients in a food processor and whizz till smooth. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Pour the batter onto the paper and spread evenly. I prefer it thin enough just to coat the pan. If you pour a thick layer, cooking time will be longer. Bake at 250 till just brown then flip and bake evenly on the other side. Remove from the oven and cool for 5 mins.

Roll the wrap in the baking paper and leave to cool. Once cooled, unwrap and add the fillings then roll and cut as desired.

City cameras yielding positive results Due to the City of Cape Town’s network of 1 600 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, 4 211 incidents were detected between December 2018 and February this year, of which 1 512 (36%) were of a criminal nature. As a result of the incidents which were caught on camera between December and February, 64 arrest were made on a

range of charges, including breaking and entering, possession of drugs, driving under the influence and cable theft. “The CCTV system provides valuable intelligence and data for investigations which are carried out by law enforcement agencies,” said Mayco member for safety and security JP Smith.

Banyana Banyana our woman’s football team will compete at the FIFA World Cup in France whilst the U20 compete in the FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland. The Proteas will get a chance for
