Kelly Lumber celebrates 65 years of local service Third generation family business evolved from Carl Kelly Sr.’s dream, customers are invited to help them celebrate with prize giveaways and a free barbecue Pat Kelly and crew invite all of us to help Kelly Lumber Sales celebrate 65 years serving the North Santiam Canyon. A celebration is planned for
August 23, 11am to 3pm. Expect to find raffle give-aways and door prizes throughout the day and free barbecued hot dogs and refreshments. Kelly Lumber Sales was conceived more than 65 years ago by Carl Kelly, Sr. who owned and operated the Mill City Planing and Processing Company, which was located on the old Hammond Lumber Company site (currently the Santiam Point residential neighborhood) in Mill City. The Mill City Planing and Processing Company planed, graded and shipped lumber for the many saw mills in the valley. On the side, Mr. Kelly manufactured siding and flooring that he sold on the local market. Mr. Kelly’s dream was to have a retail building supply yard, but his death in 1945 put a hold on that dream.
His two sons, Russell and Carl Kelly, Jr. took over the business and picked up on their father’s idea of incorporating a retail building supply store. In 1949, Kelly Lumber Sales was born. In 1951, after the Detroit Dam was built, the Kelly brothers purchased the business present location, at 757 Highway 22 from Freres Lumber. Carl Kelly continued to own and manage the growing and popular business until son Pat Kelly took over in 1986 as manager and as owner in the early 90’s. Pat Kelly continues on with his father’s and grandfather’s legacy of excellent and knowledgeable service, competitive prices and home-town friendliness at this full service building supply store. Come see what Kelly Lumber Sales can offer you that the big box stores in Salem can’t.
