(971) 240-1812 Experienced, Licensed, Bonded & Insured

Local contractor Johnny Kilby has a knack for taking his business, Fox Valley Builders, out beyond what some other contractors like to avoid. “I take jobs that others don‟t like to touch,” said Kilby. “When I build a deck, I put it where it really should be— over a ridge or beyond the typical support systems.” The Lyons-born and former Regis High student became a carpenter thanks to a higher power, because “Jesus Christ made me a carpenter.” He started Fox Valley Builders at the beginning of last year and specializes in exterior design, porticos and fences. His work also encompasses the interior areas of remodeling, like weatherization, windows and painting. If a client needs plumbing or electrical, he‟s got a well oiled team to get those jobs done, too. Google search Fox Valley Builders Mt Angel to find his place page with pictures or call Johnny Kilby at 971-240-1812.

Family Friendly Local Trails

Coming Soon!

“Rock” Auction & Dinner “It‟s one of my favorite places to run!” exclaimed local trail enthusiast, John Horn as he glided along under arched vine maple boughs laden with bright green moss. “It‟s close to home, accessible year round, and along the river….just spectacular.” The North Santiam State Park trails system was expanded a couple years back , featuring 2.4 miles of winding path through stands of old growth Douglas Firs, and 9 walk-in, boat-in campsites. And Horn, a Lyons resident who is currently training for a half marathon reports, “I‟ve been running them ever since.” On the Anderson Loop Trail tiny blue flowers poke up from the forest floor rich with a diverse undercover, of sword ferns, nurse logs and salal, while long lacey streams of sphagnum moss sway gently in the breeze. “It‟s a fairy land,” whispered Sophie Widmer to her brother Thorson as they scampered off while exploring with the writer. The morning passed too quickly for the little ones, and the adults. “This is me living in Lyons, I‟d do this every day, if I could.” Said Horn, as he walked along the river to the parking lot for a cool down. My family and I agree whole heartedly. How to get there: The entrance to the North Santiam State Park is 4 Miles west of Mill City on Highway 22. Look for the sign. Parking is plentiful. In addition to beautiful trails, and campsites, this park hosts a covered group structure, a boat launch, and some of the finest steelhead fishing around.

River Report February 2, 2011 503-897-3301 The North Santiam dropped down into runnable and fishable shape several days ago! The December and January floods kept the river high and muddy for weeks, but that weather system has passed. The river forecast is for continued good river levels until the next big storm, and that is not yet on the radar. Turbidity continues to be noticeable. At Mehama a couple of days ago, the visibility was only about one foot. That is good enough visibility to have a chance of getting a steelhead to strike our baits or lures, and we hope for continued clearing. It may be coming through Big Cliff, and if that is the case it will take a little longer to settle down. It may also be coming from work being done at the Minto Fish Trap, which is being remodeled this year to have more holding ponds and a better facility. A lot of brush and some river bank will be moved to make progress. As long as there is color and turbidity to the water, large and smelly baits will work well.
