Several canyon cities to see a change in council members; GMO labeling law still considered undecided

Statewide, several controversial measures made the ballot this year and some were decided with very close margins. While votes are officially still being counted, Measure 91, which legalizes recreational marijuana, has passed. Measure 88, which would have allowed drivers licences to illegal immigrants, has failed. But Measure 92, which required GMO labeling, failed by a mere 6.4% at the time of this printing (49.66% vs 50.30%). With 6% of votes still out and waiting to be counted, some experts still have not officially called this one for either side. Locally, Mill City has voted in a new mayor, Thorin Thacker. New business on Hwy 22 to cater to furry friends

Mill City has been abuzz about what possibly is the plan with the property just east of Rosie’s Mt. Coffee House. We caught up with the new owners of 712 Santiam Blvd. to find out for ourselves, and are thrilled to announce their arrival, Susan and Tom Cady

of Boneyard Bakery, LLC. Last September they were passing through Mill City, as they had many times in the past when they saw the aged, sagging building. They stopped there to walk their dog, Max, and give him a snack and some water. “I thought to myself what a great location – a kind of half-way point to stop with Max.” “Even dogs get tired of driving all day!” said Susan Cady. Susan and Tom had both grown up in small towns,

and they liked the flavor of Mill City. As they travelled on to Sisters, the thought of that place kept mulling around in Susan’s brain. She is the owner of an already successful established specialty dog food company, selling online and at fairs, and had been daydreaming of opening a retail location. “I had been camping in the area for a decade and knew there really wasn’t anything available for the pets. What I was certain of is that pet owners love to travel with their animals and the Santiam Hwy is the direct path to Bend and the surrounding campgrounds. People and pets had to eat! With that said, Mill City should be a prime location for what I wanted to do,” said Left: This artist’s rendetion depicts what the Susan. “As much as I tried talkBoneyard Villiage will look like when it’s finished. “How excited I am to move forward with ing myself out of such a my dream!” said Susan Cady. crazy (cont’d on page 3) 1
