8 vie for Mill City Council vacancies

As fall encroaches the urgency to spawn becomes paramount for mature salmon. Last week technicians from Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) delivered a final truckload of mature salmon to the Breitenbush River. A spawning ground that had not seen a salmon run since the early 1950’s when Detroit and Big Cliff dams were completed. After they released the salmon from their truck down an extended tubeand into the river the ODFW technicians helped explain the changes the salmon on their return home. “The salmon eat all their lives out in the ocean to build up enough fat to get back up here,” explained Brandon Marion, “Salmon stop feeding as they enter fresh water.” Their stom-
