Friday Morning Fellowship

M

ost Canyon Creekers think of Shady’s as the familyfriendly hamburger joint in the heart of the neighborhood. But what most people don’t know is that a group of 25 -35 Canyon Creek men spend their early Friday mornings at a Bible Study at the same tables you stuff your face at with the delicious hamburgers. You have accountants, attorneys, programmers, home builders, financial planners, doctors and dentists—all family men who spend this time together in fellowship and are compelled to make a difference. However, if you think it’s just a Bible Study, think again. These neighborhood leaders also reach out to our community to help those in need. Once a year they do a community church service to help raise funds for our friends in need. The funds have been used to help families in need, send kids to Young Life camp, and support various charities. This year, their community worship will be on December 6 at 10 a.m. at the Canyon Creek Country Club indoor tennis center. They expect more than 300 people to attend. 12

This group started 16 years ago at Canyon Creek Country Club. It started with 8-10 men who wanted to worship together. They all came from different churches but shared the neighborhood and a desire to share their beliefs together. Mike Lister was the original leader of the group and helped spread the word. On most Fridays, you can find Scott Tuthill leading the group. However, this is a very participatory group and everyone has a chance to speak. They share life experiences and how they have learned from them to jokes and wisecracks as they go through the daily lesson. Currently, the group is partnering with Restored Hope to help women trying to escape the sex trafficking rings that have impacted our area. The goal is to build housing that will help put these women back on their feet and out of their current situation. If you want to share fellowship within the neighborhood, make sure you visit Shady’s at 6:30 a.m. on any Friday morning. Everyone is welcome!
