INQUIRING REPORTER THREE weeks into the federal election campaign, the leaders’ debate has come and gone and polling day is getting closer, but so far there hasn’t been a lot of passion on the campaign trail, and several pundits have concluded that Tuesday’s debate didn’t change the status quo. We asked local residents if and how they’re getting engaged in the election and keeping up-to-date on the news. Find us on Facebook and tell us how closely you are following the federal election or add your comment to Inquiring Reporter at www.nsnews.com. — Tessa Holloway

Michelle Parkin North Vancouver I don’t really follow the election. I’ve just never been into politics. Growing up, my family was never into it.

How are you getting engaged in the federal election?

Phil LeGree North Vancouver I’m engaged, yes. . . . I keep up and watch to see what’s going on. I recorded the (leaders’) debate and I’m gong to watch it tonight when I get home.

Supriya Ryan North Vancouver Professionally (at the North Shore Women’s Centre), I’m trying to engage the community to vote, making sure they’re informed how to vote, where to vote.

Derrick Rockhill North Vancouver I’m involved. I watched the debate last night on TV I was unimpressed, it really didn’t tell me anything that would make me want to vote for anybody there.

Alina Gherghinoiu Vancouver I would say I’m more engaged in the federal election than the provincial election. I think it’s an exciting prospect to have a change in the Conservative government.

Ideas Fair set for Ambleside All-candidates meetings

WEST Vancouver residents are invited to participate in a second community meeting to discuss design and development options for the 1300-block of Marine Drive.

The Ideas Fair II: Bringing it Together event will be led by architect James Cheng, co-design facilitator Stanley King, and Grosvenor, an international development company that holds most of the private lands on the 1300-block. The event aims to involve the community in the discussion of development opportunities for the Ambleside Village land — part of the district’s ambitions for the revitalization of the Ambleside area. According to the district, the Ideas Fair event “will play an important role in visioning the future development of the 1300-

block of Marine Drive.” The district has identified the 1300-block area as a special site for redevelopment in its Official Community Plan and AmblesideNOW initiative. In 2008, district council implemented the Ambleside Village Centre Strategy, which called for the redevelopment of the 1300-block lands as a way of “creating vibrancy in Ambleside.” Residents interested in participating in the Ideas Fair, to be held Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., are required to register. No registration is necessary for the open house, set for Sunday, April 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. All events will take place in the West Vancouver Community Centre atrium.
