andy Vannatter is putting together a big Oscar bash in Ladner next Sunday. “It’s a lot more fun than being at home by yourself ” to watch the movie industry’s annual awards show, he says. The event, to be held at Cedar Park Church, will include a three-course dinner catered by the Bread Garden, non-alcoholic wines, a silent auction and an Oscar ballot contest. thing about movies.” The top 10 winners in the ballot contest get a replica Oscar trophy. Vannatter, a Ladner resident who has his own tour-

ism guidebook business, is a big fan of movies. He says he got the idea for an Oscar party after attending his friend’s private event to watch the awards.

The red carpet entrance is at 4 p.m. “We’re going to create a welcome with a red carpet treatment,” says Vannatter, noting there will be appetizers available. Before the show starts author and animator Ken Priebe will talk about film. Priebe is an instructor at the Vancouver Institute of Media Arts. He’s an independent filmmaker, writer, puppeteer, animation historian and author of the books The Art of Stop-Motion Animation and The ADVANCED Art of StopMotion Animation.
