FADE IN: INT.

MADELYN’S COUNSELING OFFICE- LATE AFTERNOON

Her office is in central Boulder, Colorado, just blocks away from Pearl Street and downtown Boulder. The counselor’s office is in a nondescript commercial building. The suite, on the first floor, is shared with a massage therapist and another Psychotherapist. The waiting room is decorated in a very modern feng shui decor with small water fountains, East Asian and Buddhist artwork. Gentle nature sounds play over a small CD radio tucked in a corner. No one is seated at the reception desk. Only a sign that simply states “HAVE A SEAT WE WILL BE RIGHT WITH YOU”. CARSON TRAVIS, An investigator for the Boulder District Attorney’s Office sits anxiously waiting in one of two chairs in the reception area. A larger man, over 6 feet and about 200 lbs and in his mid 30’s, fit. He looks around uncomfortably at the decorations in the room. Obviously wondering what the hell he had gotten himself into. He adjusts in his seat while shifting his Glock 21 service pistol off of his right hip bone toward his buttocks, attempting to tuck it further out of sight under his suit jacket. He almost felt guilty for having it on in this obviously peaceful and zenful office. MADELYN TAYLOR-CHARLES, A tall blond woman in her early 30’s steps out of one of the offices. She appears professional, in tailored dress pants and a contemporary blouse. She wears little to no makeup and is naturally very beautiful. MADELYN Are you Carson? Carson stands up from the chair to greet Madelyn. CARSON Yep thats me. Carson reaches to shake Madelyn’s hand. “Thin Blue Lines”

MADELYN Welcome. Nice to Meet you. Come on in. Madelyn motions for Carson to enter her office. He enters the office which is decorated in more of the same feng shui/Buddhist motif. There is the stereotypical couch and chair in the room. There is a large credenza along one wall with a small simple CD player on top, softly playing similar soothing nature sounds. MADELYN (Motioning Carson to the couch) Come in, Have a seat. Carson sits down and awkwardly shifts his weight and gun to get comfortable MADELYN (CONT’D) I am MADELYN. Thank you for coming. CARSON Thanks you for seeing me. I am glad it worked out. The last counselor I saw was on the EAP. We had just started getting into things and then time was up. Six sessions. A lot of good that does. Now I feel like I need to start all over. MADELYN I am sorry to hear that. I know these things can be frustrating. I am glad it worked out also. So tell me what is going on? CARSON I have been struggling lately, emotionally, I mean. I have a lot going on in my personal and professional life. I think that I have been having panic attacks. I have never had them before so I “Thin Blue Lines”

don’t know what to think. This shit, Uh I mean, this kinda stuff doesn’t happen to me. MADELYN Have you been to a doctor? CARSON Yes, I went to my Doc first. He put me on this medication. I stopped taking it. MADELYN What kind of medication? CARSON I think it was benzo..? benzodi...? MADELYN Benzodiazepines? CARSON Yea, that’s it. MADELYN And you quit taking them? How long were you on them? CARSON I was taking them for about a month. I hated em. I’m not good at taking pills. MADELYN You shouldn’t have just stopped taking them. Generally you should be weaned off of that medication. Why did you hate it?

CARSON I called them my... excuse me but… my I don’t give a fuck pills. When I was on them, I didn’t give a fuck about anything. Numb. I don’t like feeling that way. I can’t feel that way. MADELYN Why can’t you feel that way? That is a little bit of the point. CARSON I’m a cop. I work for the DA. Before that I was with the Sheriff’s Office in Fort Collins. I was also on SWAT. I was a sniper. I need to be on the edge. Professionally I mean. The razor’s edge. I can’t be dull. MADELYN What do you mean, dull? CARSON I need to be sharp. On point. Mentally focused. MADELYN Why is that? CARSON Because when you’re dull, mistakes happen. Mistakes can’t happen. I guess that is why I am here. I need sharpened so that I don’t make mistakes. I don’t like feeling this way.

MADELYN Have you been under unusual stress lately? CARSON (Chuckling slightly) You can say that. My wife left a few months ago. I am going through a divorce, my second. MADELYN Yes, that is some stress. And you said you are having anxiety? How long have you been having anxiety? CARSON They kinda all started about then. MADELYN They? What are they? CARSON Panic attacks. I guess they are more like flashbacks. MADELYN What happens during these episodes. CARSON I have these flashbacks of stuff in my career, mostly. But they are more than flashbacks. I mean, I remember these events. I can talk about them. I mean, I talk about them with friends and family and it’s like no big deal. But when I get these flashbacks it’s like I relive them. Like I am right back there. All my senses. I freeze up

and panic. I’m not just seeing them or remembering the images. I relive them with all of my senses. I taste, hear, smell, feel and see the event. MADELYN When do these flashbacks occur? CARSON That’s the problem. I can’t control them. They happen at random. There is no specific trigger. No warning. I don’t know what I am going to relive or how. It can happen at any time. I just freeze up. I can’t have that shit happening to me while I am working. That’s when bad shit happens. MADELYN Do you act out during these episodes? CARSON No, I just freeze up. Go to a different place, mentally. MADELYN Do you have suicidal thoughts or want to hurt yourself? CARSON FUCK NO! Sorry, my sister killed herself. I could never do that. I would not, could not do that to my family. The victims of suicide are the people left behind to try and figure out why. No, never.

Madelyn pauses. She spends a moment evaluating Carson’s response. Attempting to evaluate his sincerity. Carson senses the uncomfortable silence. He feels the need to break the silence, himself falling victim to a basic interrogation technique he has used on others countless times. CARSON I am starting to get it though. I mean, I never could understand before. If this went on for years. Got worse. I can see how cops lose it. Especially because most of them won’t get help. I am not proud. I will ask for help. But for most of us, we won’t. We are supposed to just suck it up. I heard somewhere that cops kill themselves more than the general public, especially after they retire. Never understood that before. If this shit is what they are dealing with then I kinda get it. MADELYN I am sorry to hear about your sister. That's good you aren’t having suicidal thoughts. So you said you are a cop. How long? CARSON Yes. I’m a DA Investigator. About a year and a half. MADELYN And with the Sheriff’s Department before that?

9

CARSON Yep, Most of my career was there, 13 years. MADELYN Why did you switch? CARSON I didn’t get along with the Sheriff MADELYN How so? CARSON He and his command staff were a bunch of fucking crooks and I am not. I stood up to their shit and they got pissed, so he fired me. MADELYN Ok, how do you feel about that? CARSON It pisses me off. I was a good cop. A damn good cop. Still am. They took that away. But life goes on, you know? MADELYN So what happened with your marriage? CARSON You know. I really don’t know. One night we are going to bed, we are having a small argument. Nothing big. She sits up and says that she doesn’t love me anymore. I am like, What the fuck?(MORE)

INT. CARSON AND LAUREN’S BEDROOM- NIGHT MEMORY The room is dark. Carson is on the right side of the bed, his back to Lauren. She is lying flat on her back looking at the ceiling. There is tension between the two of them that is palpable.

LAUREN I don’t love you anymore. CARSON What? LAUREN I don’t love you anymore. Carson sits straight up in bed and turns to look at Lauren. CARSON That is fucked up. How the fuck can you say something like that to me. After all we have been through. You don’t love me anymore? I am not going to fight with you. I have too much shit going on and I have to be to work early. I am not having this fucked up conversation. Carson rolls over and to fall asleep. Assuming this is another attention getting outburst. EXT. CARSON IN HIS CAR- DAYTIME MEMORY Carson is in his car driving from Boulder to Denver. It’s 10:00 AM. His cell phone rings. He looks at the display of his iPhone 3G and sees that it is Lauren calling. CARSON (On the phone) Hello LAUREN (On the phone) Hey CARSON (On the phone) Are you calling to apologize for the bullshit last night. LAUREN (On the phone) What bullshit? CARSON (On the phone) You don’t love me anymore? LAUREN (On the phone) It’s not bullshit. It is how I feel. This isn’t working out. CARSON (On the phone)

What’s not working out. Where the fuck is this coming from? LAUREN (On the phone) Are you happy? Happy with how this is going? CARSON (On the phone) Yes I am happy. Things haven’t been easy but they are getting better. You know this is such crap. I work my ass off to provide for you, the boys, my kids and this is the shit I get. LAUREN (On the phone) I appreciate all you do. All you have done but I can’t do this anymore. I am not happy and I need to change something. You seem angry all the time and I just can’t deal with it anymore. CARSON (On the phone-shouting) I am fucking sorry I am not fucking sunshine and rainbows. It's been a tough road bouncing back from having my career derailed by those bastards. Working two jobs just to make ends meet. It's not easy. You know you could do more to help out. If you don’t like it, you can start working full time. We should have never bought the house. It was you that needed it.

LAUREN (On the phone) I don’t need it anymore. I am moving out. You can do what you want with it. CARSON (On the phone) What do you mean, you are moving out? LAUREN (On the phone) I am leaving. I won’t be here when you get home. CARSON (On the phone) What the fuck? LAUREN hangs up. CARSON looks at his phone in disbelief. He presses the redial button. The phone goes straight to voicemail. He tries again. Again voicemail. Carson pulls off of Interstate 25 at the next exit in downtown Denver. He gets back on the Interstate heading north.

The front room is bare of furniture. He runs up the stairs to the master bedroom. The bed is there. Her dresser is gone. He walks into the bathroom and her side of the vanity is empty. He next goes into the walk in closet. Her side is empty. He walks toward his stepson’s rooms. Both have been cleared.

INT. MADELYN'S OFFICE- LATE AFTERNOON

MADELYN Did she say why? Where is she now? CARSON Nothing. She won’t talk to me. I have no clue where she is. I have tried to find out more from our mutual friends and from her friends. They tell me these crazy fuckin stories, lies about me. MADELYN Like what? CARSON That I have a crazy temper and that I scare her. That I yell at her. It's such bullshit. I have never laid a hand on her, EVER. I wouldn’t. I would lose everything. I know that. As for temper and yelling. Shit, nothing like hers. We sometimes yell and scream. She is worse than I am. Look, I punched a door once and broke my hand. I will never do that one again. Lesson learned. I am not some out of control prick. I live in control of my emotions. I have to. MADELYN So there has never been any violence between the two of you?

“Thin Blue Lines”

Copyright 2019 Gordon Coombes All Rights Reserved

17

CARSON Nope never. Oh, I take that back. She hit me once in my face. I told her that was the first and last time she will ever do that. It happen again, I’m out. Since then, nothing, from either of us. In fact, once we were in a fight and I told her that I needed space. I told her to sleep in another room. She wouldn’t leave. I kept telling her to go somewhere else. She started the fight, she needed to leave. She just sat on the bed and wouldn’t leave. I knew I would get arrested if I touched her. So I lifted the mattress up and she rolled off. I got in bed and went to sleep and she sat on the floor in disbelief. I will not touch her if we are arguing. MADELYN That’s good... I think??? You said this is you second marriage. What happened with your first marriage? CARSON She was fuckin nuts. (the irony of that statement was not lost on Carson) No, like seriously nuts. Diagnosed bipolar by a cop shrink. MADELYN She was also a cop? CARSON Not originally. She became a cop after me. She was highly competitive. A bit of the

‘anything you can do, I can do better.’ mentality. MADELYN Do you have kids? CARSON Two from my first marriage. My daughter just moved out on her own and I have my son half time. MADELYN What kind of support system do you have? Family? Friends? CARSON My parents are in town. Not that close with them. I have friends. A guy who is a bit of a mentor to me. The reason I went to work for the Sheriff’s Office. He had his shit down tight. Great cop. If I was going on the job. I wanted to be like him. Not some of those sloppy dudes you see in some shops. Spit shined and polished. Tactically on point. He was my firearms instructor and officer safety instructor in the academy. He became my boss in dope for a while. And had my back during some tough times. Now he works with me on a side gig that I have. MADELYN Dope? CARSON Yea, sorry. Narcotics enforcement. I spent the majority of my career

at the S.O. working narcotics, dope, at a multi agency drug task force. We targeted mid to upper level drug organizations. MADELYN That sounds intense. Was it? CARSON Let’s just say that I have bought a whole lot of drugs and have been in a whole lot of meth labs. (thinking he needed to clarify) Never done any of it though. MADELYN No drug use, at all? CARSON Never. Not even before, when I was in college. I drink from time to time. That’s it. MADELYN From time to time? How much would you say per week? CARSON A few beers a week. Maybe a little more right now. MADELYN Why’s that? CARSON To take the edge off. I got a lot going on doc.

20

MADELYN Yes, it sounds like we have quite a bit to unpack. I will be honest with you. I have never had a law enforcement client before. I am going to have to do some research and you are going to need to teach me a little bit about the profession. I can imagine that you experience a lot of trauma over the course of a career? CARSON Yeah, we see a lot of bad shit. MADELYN I have a few ideas about how I can help. If you trust me, I would like to work with you. CARSON I am game. MADELYN Great! We are running out of time. Let’s go through some of the logistics and schedule our next session. My fee is $250 per session. I do take insurance. With your insurance your copay will be $50. I think that we should meet once a week to start. We (MORE) CARSON (CONT'D) can start there and see if we need to meet more or less as we progress. Sound good to you? CARSON That sounds great.

MADELYN Good. Does this time work for you. Can you do this again next week? CARSON This is perfect. MADELYN Great. So this time next week. I only had to kick his ass a couple times when he tried spooning me last night. Henry, a mid 20’s heavy set male. Unemployed small town cop, Quirky personality. Inappropriate to an extreme, verbally and sometimes physically impulsive. His impulsive comments are a mix of infuriating and hilarious. HENRY (Shouting so he can be heard on the speaker phone) Don’t believe him. I was a very good boy. I just wanted to cuddle. CARSON (Audible over speaker phone) That’s what I’m afraid of. Of course he doesn’t have the balls to say anything when his, soon to be ex, brother-in-law is accused of diddling the kid. CARSON Of course not. JASMINE (Over the phone) I telling you Carson, I don’t know why these sick fucks tell me this shit. Then I gotta act like I get it. Oh yea buddy, I totally get it. if I had a dick, I too would be hot for toddlers. Makes perfect sense! Meanwhile, it takes every ounce of energy not to choke the mother fucker out. INT. CARSON’S CAR- EVENING-PULLING INTO THE DIRT PARKING LOT OF WESTERN SKIES BAR.

Western Skies bar is a local bar that is a cross between

Honky Tonk and a Hooters. Waitresses wearing short shorts, push up bras and bearing cleavage. The bar is owned by Georgia Campbell. Georgia was a bartender in a couple of local nightclubs and bars when Carson was a patrol cop. She relentlessly flirted with CARSON when he was unavailable. She posed for a popular high end adult magazine and used the proceeds to purchase Western Skies. With CARSON’s marital status change, he is more the pursuer and Georgia, the pursuee. Carson steps out of the car and chirps the remote car lock as he walks into the bar.

CUT TO:

INT. WESTERN SKIES BAR, WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

JENI is a 20 something brunette with sass and spirit. Shorter, about 5’5” Beautiful in her own right, however almost pedestrian next to Georgia. Jeni is wearing her traditional cut off jean shorts with her ass cheeks peeking out from the bottom and a black leather push up bra pressing her young, firm cleavage out.

JENI (Calling out from behind the bar) CARSON! Time for another session? Jeni draws a Coors Light from the tap and sets it on the bar in front of CARSON’s usual chair.

CARSON Have I become that predictable? JENI You want a shot with that? CARSON For sure. Make it a Makers! Jeni grabs the bottle of Maker's Mark from the back shelf of the bar. She pulls out two shot glasses and places them side by side on the bar then pours the bourbon into each glass. She slides one to Carson and raises her hand with the other one. Carson take his and raises the glass. Simultaneously, they both shoot down the liquor. Carson cringes and then chases the shot with his Coors Light. Jeni is unfazed by the drink. JENI Every other week. Usually Wednesday and Thursday. Sometimes Friday. CARSON Jesus, My life really does suck. JENI Can’t suck that bad you are here with me now and you have a beer in your hand. Drink up! CARSON Are you trying to get me drunk already?

JENI Only if you promise to let me take advantage of you.

31

CARSON You are such a tease. Jeni leaned in closely to Carson, now sitting at the bar, leaning forward over his beer. She squeezes her arms together on the bar, intentionally pressing her breasts up and out, accentuating her cleavage. Her lips come within a couple inches of his lips, her head tilts slightly to the right as if going in for a kiss and she stops. Her deep dark brown eyes drawn him in. JENI Am I? I guess you’ll never know if I am teasing or serious. She bounces back off of the bar suddenly. JENI (CONT’D) Any word from your wife? Jeni asks walking away to help the next customer who just sat down at the bar. CARSON drops and shakes his head before taking a deep breath to compose himself. CARSON Nope. Georgia approaches the open end of the bar next to where Carson is seated. GEORGIA Jeni, did you check in the liquor order this afternoon? They shorted us two bottles of Jager. Are you harassing my girls? CARSON Would I do that? GEORGIA Well, why not? Don’t you like her ass? And her ass? CARSON And your ass? GEORGIA Jeni have I ever told you how we met? CUT TO: EXT. GEORGIA’S HOUSE

3:30 AM

MEMORY Georgia’s house is in a middle class Fort Collins neighborhood.

Six inches of fresh powder snow blankets the landscape and driveway. Georgia has just pulled into the driveway in a green 2002 Ford Expedition. She has thigh high brown leather boots with a thigh length brown and white faux fox fur coat. Carson exits his patrol car that is still running and parked slightly blocking the driveway. He walks over to help Georgia navigate the slippery snow. Georgia walks gingerly over to him as he heads up the driveway toward the front door of the residence. GEORGIA This snow is crazy! CARSON I don’t think anyone is out stalking you in this weather. GEORGIA Thank you for following me. I feel so much safer. CARSON That’s what I am here for, to serve and protect, right? Georgia reaches out to grab Carson’s hand to shake it and suddenly slips on the icy snow, Falling forward toward Carson. Seeing her begin to fall, Carson reaches out and catches her by embracing her in an impromptu hug. CARSON holds her in his arms and she looks in the eye.

34

CARSON Wow, are you ok? GEORGIA (Breathless) Thank you A pause, hesitation. Mutual desire to kiss. Waiting for who will make the gesture. They simultaneously catch movement out of the corner of their eyes. Suddenly a fox scampers through the snow in the front lawn of her house, stops and looks toward the two people. They both look back. 3 feet separating them from the fox. The fox began to walk away slowly. It stops and to look back at them and then resumes walking away. GEORGIA That was perfect. CARSON Beautiful.

35

CARSON You know? I think we should consider more moments. GEORGIA You can’t mess with perfection. Georgia said as she walked back toward her office. Leaving Carson seated at the bar. CARSON Killin me! Brian, Georgia’s brother, walked up to Carson with a freshly poured Coors Light. BRIAN Here you go man. This one's on me. CARSON What did I do to deserve this? BRIAN I almost feel bad for you. CARSON And why is that? BRIAN Cause you blew it. Bad. That door was open for a time and now it is very closed. It's too bad really. I kinda like you. Brian raised his glass and took a drink. JENI What are you boys chatting about? BRIAN How CARSON here, needs to get back on the horse. JENI He needs to figure his shit out, then get back on the horse. And I might suggest a pony. A cute little pony with a lot of spirit. BRIAN Getting back on the horse will help him figure his shit out. CARSON Thanks for your deep concern but I got my shit figured out and I’ve done a bit of riding as well. JENI I call bullshit. If she called you right now and wanted to hook up, would you do it? CARSON Honestly? Yea, probably. JENI Then you don’t have your shit figured out and any horses you’re riding are rentals. Jeni walked to the other end of the bar to help another regular.

CARSON At this stage of the game, I am not looking to buy. No commitments here. I am starting to think that I am not good at this whole relationship thing. Jeni draws another beer and pours two more shots. JENI You just haven’t met the right girl. Maybe you had the right girl and you fucked that up. I don’t know? I do know that chasing every piece of ass that strolls in front of you isn’t going to help. And chasing ones that are off limits will only make things worse. CARSON Those are some pretty wise words. How long have you been tending bar? Why am I paying for a shrink! JENI I may not be that much cheaper. Jeni hands Carson one of the shots she just poured and kept one for herself. JENI Cheers! BRIAN Dude, don’t listen to that shit. Sometimes you gotta play the field to figure out what you want. Except for my sister. You are barking up the wrong tree there.

CARSON What the hell!? She was chasing me hard for years. During my first marriage and then again when I was dating my wife. Now I am free and she isn’t interested? BRIAN Times change man. You should have struck while the iron was hot. She is not available anymore. I can tell you this though. You had a real shot. She was way in to you. CARSON Fuck me. I totally blew that. I should have just went for it. JENI No, you shouldn’t have. You stayed true for a reason. You are (MORE) JENI (CONT'D) a really good guy. That’s obvious. You followed your heart. That reason led you to this point for a reason. CARSON Where did that get me? BRIAN Broken hearted? CARSON Damn it! I’ve been listening to the wrong head.

JENI Well when your heart starts thinking for your dick again, let me know. From the sound of it, I would like to spend some time with the heart led Carson. CARSON Seriously? JENI Seriously… With or without clothing. Jeni abruptly ended the conversation and walked toward the other end of the bar to take care of other patrons. Carson took a deep breath and slammed down the rest of his beer. CARSON On that note. I have reached my limit. I am going to go home and pet my dog. BRIAN Is that what you call it. CARSON Fuck you. Good night Jeni. Love you! JENI Sure you do! Drive safe!

EXT. DAIRY FARM- HOT JULY MORNING. PTSD FLASHBACK

Carson is on the top of a silver stock trailer. He is on rifle. He is peering through the sight of the duplex crosshair rifle scope of his custom built Remington 700 Light Tactical Rifle. The range is about 20 yards. Too close. A blond female hostage is being held down by a male subject. The male is barely visible. Only a thin strip of his forehead and black curly hair in sight. Not enough to target. Hostage, mid 20’s female with blond hair. Strung out meth addict. Carson knows her. She is the victim of a major organized crime bail bond case where the bail agent was extorting sex from female clients. CARSON and his partner in the case, Van Jenkins, had just indicted the suspect in that case 6 months earlier and he is awaiting trial. Now she was being held hostage by her estranged husband. HOSTAGE Help me please! He is going to kill me! He has a gun! The suspect is lying on his back on the bench seat of the pickup. He is holding the hostage over the top of him. Covering his entire body. The hostage’s face is flushed red from hysteria and from the rising heat in the cab of the disabled pickup. The stock trailer is parallel to the disabled truck. There are two empty patrol cars blocking in the rear of the truck, one with heavy front end damage. There is a third patrol car immediately in front of the truck. Heavy damage to the rear of the car and to the front end of the truck. The deputies that once occupied the cars are now set up on the opposite side of the stock trailer.

The SWAT TEAM is positioned behind an armored personnel carrier now staged behind the damaged patrol cars. Sweat is dripping from CARSON’s head. CARSON (Mumbling to himself) Come on mother fucker show me your head. Give me just a little more, you piece of shit. HOSTAGE (Screaming) Please help me! Carson can see her eyes through the scope. He is straining to see more of the suspect. Any slack in his half pound precision rifle trigger has been pulled out. The least bit more force will certainly cause the rifle to explode to life. Carson can hear a loud voices and crying coming from the rear of the stock trailer and behind the immediate scene. CARSON What the fuck is all that noise coming from over there? Frasier, a patrol deputy who was standing in as CARSON’s observer since, as usual, CARSON’s sniper partner is out of town. FRASIER I will check. Carson continues to wait for the moment when the suspect reveals himself enough to ensure a total and instant incapacitation head shot or instant kill shot.

FRASIER The fucking Sheriff is on scene with the Undersheriff. And you are not going to believe this,(MORE) CARSON (CONT'D) they have the suspect’s family with them. CARSON (Never lifting his head from the scope) Here? They are here? This fucking trailer is going to roar like thunder when this mother fucker gives me a clear shot.

TOM EASTBROOK- SWAT Commander. In his early 50’s. Good humored guy but a consummate professional when it comes to tactics and doing his job as Commander. Been on the force for over 20 years. Eastbrook is on the safe side of the stock trailer, calling up to the rifleman on top. COMMANDER EASTBROOK Is this the guy? I have a picture. Can you confirm if this is the guy. CARSON (shouting out loudly) Tommy, If I could ID this guy we would be back at 900 waiting for the attorney’s to show up. This thing would be over. The heat of the rising sun is radiating through the silver metal roof of the stock trailer. Carson can feel the heat through his battle dress uniform blouse and pants. Sweat is beginning to flow from under his hat a steady drip now causing his eyeballs to sting from the salt. Carson blinks his eyes repeatedly in an effort to clear the ghosted sight

of the scope’s crosshairs that are etched into his vision from the hours long standoff and straining for a clear shot of the suspect. Carson knows he is at the outer limit of his exertion and he is beginning to fear that his own ability to take an effect shot is beginning to compromise. Anxiety and self doubt is beginning to creep into the equation. Carson presses the transmission button for the radio connected to his headset and boom microphone. Still straining for a clear shot and trying to ignore the constant screams of the hostage, begging for her life. CARSON (Over the Radio) Command. Sniper 1. COMMANDER EASTBROOK (Over the Radio) Sniper 1. Command. Go ahead. CARSON (Over the Radio) I have been on gun for over 4 hours now with no relief. With this heat and time on gun, I am reaching my limit. Do we have an ETA for the City’s Team? COMMANDER EASTBROOK (Over the Radio) Hang in there. We should have relief here in about 10. CARSON (Out loud but no over the radio) Don’t fucking lie to me Tommy. CUT TO:

INT. CARSON’S HOUSE. SOUTHEAST FORT COLLINS SUBURBAN NEIGHBORHOOD- NIGHT TIME

Carson is in the entryway of his house. He is sitting just inside the door, leaning against the wall next to the door. He can feel the heat of the sun radiating from the silver surface of the stock trailer on chest, waist and legs. He can feel the beads of sweat on his forehead and rolling down over his nose. The stench of the cow shit from the dairy farm is pungent in Carson’s nose. The screaming and shouting of voices ringing in his head and most of all the pleas for help coming from the hostage. He can see deeply into her terrified eyes. The warm, moist tongue of Libby, Carson’s dog, wipes across his face. Snapping him to the present time and place. CARSON Awe Libby. Thank you girl. Carson, peers around the darkness of the house. He looks into the empty living room and dining room. Bare with no furniture. A stark reminder of his current living situation. Then it dawns on him. He can’t remember the last half of his drive home. CARSON Fuck me. Get your shit together, CARSON. Carson walks into the kitchen, opens the refrigerator, and grabbed a beer out of it. He twists off the cap and gulps down the beer in an effort to wash away the flashback. His cell phone rings and he sees the Jasmine’s name appear on the screen.Carson presses the answer button and lifts the phone to his ear.

CARSON Hey, what’s up? JASMINE (In an extremely slurred voice over the phone) I’ve been thinking. You’re lucky. You know, you’re lucky to have me. CARSON Oh yea? Why is that? JASMINE (Over the phone) Cause I got it. CARSON Got what? Are you ok? JASMINE (Over the phone) The… The confession from that sick fucking pervert. Will couldn’t get that you know. CARSON I know Jas. You are a rock star. Have you had a little too much to drink tonight? JASMINE (Over the phone) Fuck you. I had two beers. CARSON You had more than that Jas. Get some sleep and we will chat tomorrow.
