President’s Message We have seen a lot of changes to the Canungra Show in the past few years. Our aim for Canungra Show is to provide competition and entertainment for the local residents in Canungra and the surrounding areas. While we continue to showcase the best of our region in various competitions, the Committee also sees the need to move with the times. To this end, we update our classes each year to include new breeds, such as Pintaloosas, and new Artworks, such as Zentangle! Last year we introduced a Dog Show, while not an ‘official’ show, is ideal for people wanting to enjoy showing their mixed breed dog or to introduce their young purbreed dogs to showing. We have continued to build on the dog show this year and hope that you will enjoy and support it. To make it easier for you to enjoy the Show with your dog, canine entrants will be given a tag to allow them entry to the Showground. The first ‘Canungra Show Rocks’ was a great addition to our Show, enabling us to bring a quality rock concert to the district. This year we have another great line up with a mix of local and South-East Queensland based acts. Moriarty Park continues to be utilised for our Fine Arts Hall, as well as a great location for the Ute Show, Show and Shine, Dogs, Australian Miniature Goats and a host of great entertainment. There are so many free activities at Moriarty Park this year - Laser Skirmish, Bubble Football, the amazing Dinkum Dinosaurs, children’s interactive craft area and the emergency services area where you can see army vehicles, fire engines and much more! A great chance for all the family to enjoy some new experiences! The Canungra Show is run by local people for the town and district, and relies heavily on support from volunteers. Our Committee is supported by a huge number of volunteers from throughout the community and we could always do with more help in running these events. Whether it is a couple of hours helping on the gate, or taking up a position on the Committee, if you are interested in helping out we would love to hear from you - talk to one of the people in the red shirts at the Bar or Secretary’s Box. Come and celebrate with us, it is going to be a great day. Roly Ethell CAHIS Inc President 2019

Fat Cattle Classes The Fat Cattle (sometimes called ‘Prime Cattle’) Competition is for a class of beef cattle of any age but usually greater than one year, well-covered and judged ready for slaughter to provide prime cuts of beef. The Fat Cattle Classes are judged before Show Day on Monday 19th August 2019 at the Canungra Showground. Cattle are delivered to the Showground in the morning of the competition where the judge will view them before delivering his results to the waiting crowd of local graziers. The Fat Cattle judging is traditionally a day for the local graziers. They get together for a chat and lunch after the competition is finished and presentations have been completed. It is a very friendly competition at Canungra, however the entrants take a lot of pride in their beasts and there is a certain amount of prestige in winning any of the classes, and especially Above: Doug Bradfield with Sue Harrison at the 2018 Fat Cattle judging. taking out the coveted ‘Champion Beast of Show’ or ‘Most Successful Exhibitor’ awards. Below: Derek Finch at the Fat Cattle judging at The cattle entered are sold at the Cattle Sales Canungra Showground in 2017 the day after judging.

2019 Canungra Show

Entering Competitons in the Pavilions By Carol Mahony The Canungra Show has two pavilions – the Fine Arts Hall at Moriarty Park and the Main Pavilion at Canungra Showground. We have around 1000 entries each year and invite everyone to start exhibiting. The Fine Arts Hall is where entries for paintings, drawings and wood work are taken. The Main Pavilion is for cooking, needlework and photography. Check the schedule for details of classes.

Entering in the show is very easy. The most important thing about entering is to read the classes carefully. Entries are judged on a certain criteria which are uniform across all shows. Present your exhibit exactly as it is stated in the schedule. For example, in the cooking section points may be deducted if you have decorated your cake to make it look pretty when in fact your cake is judged on the taste. The schedule will tell you what, if any decoration is required. If you have any questions feel free to contact the Chief Steward beforehand - their phone number is at the beginning of each section of the Program. Entries are taken from 1pm until 6.30pm on the Friday the day before the show. Simply fill out the entry form which you will find in the Show schedule or on our webpage www.canungrashowsociety.org. If you require any help we can give this to you when you bring in your entries. Judging is done on Friday night after entries close and both of the pavilions are open on Show day from 9am until 5pm. Exhibits in the Main Pavilion can be collected between 9am and 11am on the Sunday immediately following the Show or by making alternative arrangments with the Chief Steward. Exhibits in the Fine Arts Hall at Moriarty Park can be collected on Sunday between 9.30am and 10.30am. All first places in the senior (adult) section attract a prize of $5 for 1st and $2 for second. In the Juvenile section first prize is $3 and second is $1. The Fine Arts Pavilion also has some very worthwhile prizes. Each section has prizes for the Most Successful Exhibitor and Champion Exhibit. There are also other special prizes for particular classes and you can see the Show Schedule for details. However, any exhibitor will tell you it is for the fun of exhibiting and not the prize. If you would like to help on Friday afternoon or night to help take entries and put up displays or can assist in the pavilions on Saturday or Sunday please contact the Chief Steward or Show Secretary on 0403 278 556 prior to the Show. We will welcome anyone who would like to help.
