The Christian Science Nurse– in the Practice
“… one who has a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice…” In the Manual of The Mother Church; DISCIPLINE Article VIII “Guidance of Members” Mary Baker Eddy starts with the Rule for Motives and Acts – a direction for how we each act and think as members of The Mother Church and ends with Sect. 31 Christian Science Nurse By-law (Church Manual, Art. Vlll, Sect. 31)
Christian Science Nurse
A member of The Mother Church who represents himself or herself as a Christian Science nurse shall be one who has a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice, who thoroughly understands the practical wisdom necessary in a sick room, and who can take proper care of the sick. (Man. 49:7)
This By-law states that to call oneself a Christian Science nurse, one must be prepared with “...a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice, …” indicating that they have completed Christian Science Class instruction and they are ready to be a Christian Science practitioner. Though both the Christian Science nurse and Christian Science practitioner are equally prepared in the practice of Christian Science, each serve different, yet essential roles in healing through Christian Science.
