This remarkable work, commissioned* in 2012, is the result of an artistic collaboration between the composer, Francis Grier, Stephen Darlington, Director of Music at Christ Church Cathedral since 1985, and Ross McKim, Director of the Cathedral Dance Project and Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance. The first concert performance on 21 June will be preceded by two liturgical performances** earlier in the week, one of which will also feature dance, as noted below. Francis Grier was the obvious choice for this bold and innovative commission. He has established himself as significant contemporary composer of sacred music and received much acclaim for the originality of his compositional style, reflected in major commissions for Westminster Abbey, King's College, Cambridge, Christ Church, Oxford, and St George's Chapel, Windsor, amongst others, Ross McKim has significant experience as a distinguished scholar and choreographer of liturgical dance. Christ Church Cathedral Choir is justly famous for the youthfulness of its sound and its daring and adventurous musical programming. Unique in the world as both Cathedral and College choir, the intimate acoustic of its musical home, Oxford's 12th century Cathedral, has given the choir a relationship with early sacred music and the rhythm and vigour of contemporary idioms which is second to none. Rambert School is one of the UK's foremost dance conservatoires, producing dancers with a powerful combination of classical and contemporary dance skills. Tickets for the performance on Friday 21 June are from £5 to £20 (concessions available). Please note that, due to the layout of the Cathedral, some seats have a restricted view.
