If we eat foods that are high in calories, but low in nutritional value, we will constantly be in poor health. There are some foods that contribute to chronic and life threatening diseases. Research indicates that what we think of as age-related diseases are actually a result of long term nutrient deficits in our diets. So, the first step towards getting healthy is to eat better foods. If at all possible, you should stop eat processed, prepared and packaged foods. Instead, buy real food and fix it at home. People say that they don't have time to cook their own meals, but they have plenty of time to sit in front of the TV. One of the best things that people could do for their health would be to turn the TV off. Cooking can be an enjoyable and relaxing pastime. If you don't know how to operate the appliances in your kitchen, you can learn. It just takes practice.


The second step for getting healthy, in most cases, is to move around more. Sedentary lifestyles play a role in all kinds of disease. Regular physical activity, particularly weight-bearing exercises, reduces the risk of arthritis, osteoporosis and heart disease. It's actually an effective pain reliever, too. There are many other steps that you might need to take. You may need to take a good multinutritional supplement and an omega-3 supplement. You might need to switch from coffee to green tea. You could need to get more sleep. That's one of the reasons that researchers don't always agree on the necessary steps for getting healthy. People are different.
