Do you know which dinosaur was nicknamed “long neck”? Do you know which dinosaur had the biggest head? Join Camp Cannon for a colossal journey into the world of dinosaurs. Build a dinosaur replica and have an archaeological dig, just like a real paleontologist. In Dino Discovery, you will have a swamp-stomping good time.

Eureka-Inventors Camp

A camp for inventors! Campers will overcome a series of challenges using basic materials, simple machines, tips from famous inventors and the most important of all – their mind. With a little bit of ingenuity campers will create aircrafts, construct working light sticks to take home and assemble a set of circuits with batteries and light bulbs.

Garden to Spoon

Let’s get your hands dirty as we learn about gardening and food. Garden with Camp Cannon by making take-home garden boxes with a variety of herbs and other accessories for your garden. Create some daily delicious treats with healthy foods. Toss in our special ingredient of nature-based crafts, and you have Garden to Spoon!

Galactic Adventures

Genealogy 101

Campers will utilize Cannon’s Upper School library and use resources such as Ancestry.com, Fold3, and Newspapers.com. Other US Government resources such as the US Archives and the Library of Congress will be employed. Students will also research & share family recipes and traditions. The class finale will be an artifact book about each camper’s family tree and a “potluck” lunch where students may bring in a family dish to share.

Guts, Goo and Gross Science

Incredible Flying Machines

Long before our skies were filled with superheroes saving the day, there were planes, and there were… Mad Scientists! In this hands-on camp, campers will build many different flying devices. Junior test pilots will launch a variety of flying machines including balloon copters, a hovercraft, paper airplanes, kites, a solar bag, solid fuel rockets and more! You are cleared for takeoff!

Mini Med Class

Is there a doctor in the camp? Join us this summer as we bring Mini Med School to Camp Cannon. Our little doctors will use stuffed animal patients to take blood pressure readings, give “stiches”, put on a cast and make their own first aid kit, all while learning lots about what doctors, dentists, EMTs, and other medical professionals do daily. Time to operate!

NASA: Journey into Outer Space

Step into the shoes of a detective at Camp Cannon’s Secret Agent Headquarters – uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Use your skills of listening, testing, and observation during this week of detection.

Shipwreck Island

This camp puts campers on a “deserted island” on which they must work together to devise a means for collecting food and water, build shelter, bridges, and learn about the science behind survival fun! They will use tools at hand to write messages to send in a bottle and witness a volcanic eruption. Campers will eventually design a means to escape the island and come home.

Campers are introduced to veterinary science by meeting live animals and learning how to care for them in this popular camp. Students use stethoscopes, gauze, and bandages to ‘doctor’ pets.
